  1. Probably wouldn't be hard at all for Dempster/Wuertz to pitch an inning in both games.
  2. How many picks did you have in the first 2 rounds? Good Lord! Cabrera, all 3 Ramirez's, Lee, and Sizemore are all players you could argue to be picked in the first 2 rounds. Oh yeah, and don't trade for an OF, unless you can get one of the trades with Teahen to go, and I would lean toward trading Upton. Look for pitching first. SP preferably. Don't ever trade Aramis unless you are getting a great player in return, which likely won't happen because they are all on your team.
  3. Yes! Now I can custom-order my Trumaine McBride jersey.
  4. Stop complaining. Your starters all pitched well. Soriano came to play. You have 3 offensive players over 12 points already.
  5. 6. Given the difference between their Pythagorean record and their actual record, and their record in close games, I'd say that's the biggest reason why the Cubs are losing. If they scored more runs in the first 6 innings, they'd wouldn't have the problem of losing close games. And again, then how do you explain SF being 2 games over .500 and being just as bad hitting late and much worse pitching late?
  7. Their lineup to date is better than the Cubs. I just don't think they are running away with the div., which I loosely define as being 10 games up on Sept. 1. They very well could win it, however. Will it continue to be so once Soriano starts to hit? Having gotten nothing from Soriano, the Brewers have still only scored 5 more runs than the Cubs - 117-112. Brewers will see a large upgrade at 3B at some point and Hall hasn't been hitting much so its not like they don't have underperforming guys as well. As for the run differentials, those don't tell you very much with only one months data. Truth is the Brewers have a very good end of bullpen and very midiocre middle of the bullpen so they are going to get blown out a few times and win a lot of close games all year. I don't think they run away with it but I think they are the best overall team in the division so have as good a shot as anyone to take it. Hard to say that a rookie will come in and be a huge upgrade over what they have now. Weeks and Fielder weren't great when they came in the league and they were more heralded than Braun. As for Hall, his stats are in line with his career stats. Probably will get better, but that's no guarantee with the drastic position change this year.
  8. San Francisco has the worst OBP after the 7th and by far the worst ERA after the 7th......they are 13-11. For the record in 2006, the Cubs and Pirates (worst 2 teams in the NL) were 3-4 in ERA after the 7th inning. The Cardinals scored the fewest runs, and they and the Mets were .009 ahead of the Cubs in OPS after the 7th, good for a 10th place tie in the NL. This argument reeks of "the Cubs aren't good in the clutch".
  9. DRays, Indians, DBacks are fun to watch.
  10. I was gonna say the exact same thing. The Reds had such a great April last year they stayed in contention playing mediocre ball the rest of the way. The Reds were also a less talented team getting awfully flukey pitching last April.
  11. Won't run away with the division, but I think they will hang around all year. They are probably a little weak with the bats and a little weak in the pen, though. They are getting a 1.030 out of LF (Mench, Jenkins). .365 OBP out of RF, despite the fact that Corey Hart who has 52 of the 92 RF ABs has a .333 OBP. They are getting crap at 3B, but do have a big-time prospect in the wings. Pitching wise, I have a hard time believing Claudio Vargas with the career 6.46 K/9, will keep up his current rate of striking out almost 12 per 9. Then his 1.50 WHIP will cause his 3.68 ERA to skyrocket. Capuano and Suppan are also pitching like All-Stars right now. Their bullpen has been dominant as of late also, including Derrick Turnbow who is pitching like the best reliever in baseball right now.
  12. I think the Bears will use Olsen a lot on 3rd down in the slot, ala the Colts last year with Dallas Clark. Get a big guy on a nickel-back or safety, who can just as soon outrun them also. He's a better slot option than Rashied Davis who is much smaller. I'd like to see sets of Moose and Berrian outside. Olsen in the slot. Clark at TE and a RB in the backfield. I would feel pretty good with a 3-receiver pattern and max protection with Clark and RB. Or I would feel good about getting Clark into the middle by spreading the field out with the 3 wide.
  13. 1 for 15, with 5 Ks to start the week! Rich Hill gets a 21 point start, but the team still loses. Yesterday was worthless.
  14. Nope. Marmol 3/3 K/BB Gallagher 4/4 Ceda 4/1 Petrick got beat up a little today too.
  15. I thought Minnesota, Carolina, and San Francisco had the best draft. Dolphins got an A+ from sportingnews, but also got 3 Ds and an F. Cleveland got a 4.0.
  16. My guess is that his fastball doesn't have much movement at this point. Someone with that velocity usually puts up higher K numbers, especially at the lower levels where you can get guys out simply by throwing unhittable fastballs.
  17. The circumstances absolutely stink, but the Cubs rotation is set up perfectly. Guzman gets a start against the Nats, a team he should be able to do well against.
  18. I'm not putting Patterson in there. Looks like I'll be putting in Owings for his start against the Mets. I thought of picking up Shawn Hill, but I didn't realize he had 2 starts this week. I thought he would miss the Cubs Sunday. So, yeah, my pitching is going against some tough offenses, other than Marquis, and he has a tough pitching matchup vs. Snell. I need David Wright to step it up and I'm predicting a big week from Morneau.
  19. Braves seem like a team that could use some Jacque Jones.
  20. 3-1 going into a big game against a desperate 2-2 GHS team. HBC is gonna be all alone in 1st place in the East.
  21. The problem is that you have to have two parties to make a trade. If they could work something for Ogun, it would probably just be a dump where they don't get much in return. Brown could possibly bring value back. So it depends on whether you think there's more benefit to freeing up the cap space or in getting something in return as to which player would be the right one to deal. Whether they should make a deal or not is another question. I think if that's the case, the cap space is more important. The difference in the cap space is more at this point than the difference in the return you'd get back from each. I don't think either will bring back something that fulfills a need. How about Alex Brown, Lance Briggs, and the Bears #1 in 2008 for Rocky McIntosh and the rights to LaRon Landry.
  22. Word is Pistons series will probably start around Saturday. The Final 4 in the East is pretty much set as Toronto is getting embarrassed and going down 3-1.
  23. What is the DE rotation right now? Alex Brown, Adewale Ogunleye, Mark Anderson and Bazuin now, right? That's not enough DEs to actually trade one yet, not the way Lovie and co. like to rotate d-linemen. Is Idonje gone?
