  1. Worse defensive OF? Soriano, Jones, Floyd or Bay, Nady, Doumit
  2. YAY! Good job Felix. I think he looked good for someone as raw as he is. This moves works out in so many ways. Pagan isn't good, but like Goony said, he's probably as safe a bet to produce anything Pie was gonna be able to do. He's not great defensively in CF, but does provide a RH bat to keep Jones out of the lineup vs. LHPs.
  3. Neither are Veal's. 25 Ks and 21 BBs in 28 innings means his pitch count is through the roof early. Glad he's been much better recently, but that's always a bad formula.
  4. Bullington has been great this year. He will be in a Pirates uniform by the middle of this season if he keeps it up. His pitch count has not been a problem so far.
  5. Is there anyway this kid sees the majors this year? Any move to AA or AAA in the forseeable future? He's in AA right now. I could see a call up to AAA if he keeps pitching the way he does, but that probably wouldn't happen until the second half of the season (at the very earliest). I think around the ASB would be good, even earlier is fine. It's been just 41 innings but he is a college kid and more advanced. I still wonder about his stuff, I haven't read too many flattering things about his FB but those reports might still be based off last season. Also, Holliman started off well last season (obviously not sub-0.50 ERA, he did have a sub-3 ERA in June though) and then really tailed off so that might be a concern. MY BOY!
  6. Marquis went undrafted, but I picked him up right after the draft, because I had a feeling about him. Never could have imagined this, but I won't complain. 46 points when all is said and done. Which combats Belisle's near 30-pointer along with a solid offensive day.
  7. It's always funny when a couple guys don't want to join in. Does that make them NOT team players?
  8. I guess I should've read the rules. Yeah, I didn't realize that either.
  9. Hard to believe there hasn't been a better CF in the last 25 years. No Dernier? What about Lofton in his half of 03? What about Brant Brown in 98? He got the full-time CF job about midway through the year. SS I can see, and imagine a lot of teams that have not had Arod, Jeter, Tejada, or Ripken probably have bad SS's too.
  10. Hendry could have the Yankees offensive roster and the Red Sox pitching talent. He could have acquired all by given up prospects that have flamed out. He could have signed all FAs at the league minimum. But if he has a losing record as a GM, he's NOT a good GM. That's the bottom line. Sure, Lee, Ramirez, Nomar, Barrett were all steals. Developing Theriot, Zambrano, Hill, Wuertz, Pie is great. But the fact remains that he hasn't done well enough to win, and he has had no shortage of resources to do so. Hell, even the teams without resources have had more success on the field (Marlins, A's to name a couple) and on the farm.
  11. I would have been willing to bet that Wuertz could have gotten out of 7th and not given up the lead as Howry did. I'd would have been willing to bet that the offense, with Murton instead of Izturiz would have scored more than the 3 they needed to get to the 10th.
  12. Probably wouldn't have been in that situation had he: 1. Not started all 3 of his middle IFs in the first place, and sat Izturis. 2. Didn't micromanage the bullpen to pitch to 1 batter each.
  13. I thought Guzman looked OK yesterday. Didn't have his best stuff. Gave up a lot of fly balls, and when he's on that doesn't happen. Velocity was excellent. Sinker just a little less sink than he probably wanted, but it's been that way since his last injury and hasn't come back yet. The control was great, though. When he missed, it wasn't badly. And I thought the ump gave up on a couple of his curves that ended in the zone. He's gonna have to get more groundballs in order to put up some consistent outings. His 2-seamer doesn't have great movement anymore. I worry about him vs. the Phils LHs in his start this weekend.
  14. Lou's handling of the bullpen has been flat out stupid. It has fortunately worked for the most part, but there was no reason to NOT stick with Wuertz or Cotts yesterday. Wuertz has been the best reliever on the team for almost 3 years. He can get out LHs just as well as RHs. Cotts has been the best reliever all year. His career splits aren't much different when facing a RH or LH. This year nobody has hit him much. No reason why either of those 2 couldn't have gotten out of the 7th yesterday, with a better result than bringing Howry in a bases loaded situation.
  15. Head-to-head would be 1st tiebreaker.....and I beat you and Buddiga.
  16. Too many pitches. Red Sox are good, even when they aren't hitting. I needed a 20-pter from Johan. Regardless, the difference this week is that Soriano and Teixeira have risen from the dead to outscore the majority of my offense.....and that's not including a 32 pt week from Fielder so far. I need a negative outing from Sheets today, and another Hamels 40-spot from Hamels.
  17. The Cubs computer can calculate intangibles, such as grit and heart, and can tell if someone is a professional hitter or not.
  18. That was a Cubs-like 4 run first nothing else the rest of the way performance. I still don't get Zambrano. I'm very scared. I guarantee that Zambrano will maybe perform well consistently. I'm positively uncertain of that.
  19. Screw that. The Cubs need to score more and put some room between them and the Nats with the wind as it is.
  20. can't imagine why, given our lights-out closer and our stellar record in close games Actually Dempster was a very shaky closer last year and far from lights-out. Also our record is one run games is actually 0-6, no where near stellar. In fact you could say its the exact opposite of stellar Again.....sarcasm.
  21. can't imagine why, given our lights-out closer and our stellar record in close games I'd kill for a few years ago Mariano Rivera on the Cubs. Lee Smith, Rod Beck, Mitch Williams, Alfonseca, Hawkins, Dempster, Aguilera.....a long list of guys who never made a save easy in a Cubs uniform.
  22. Lou is managing this team right out of this game. 3 pitchers in 1 inning? Why bring in Cotts when you know he is gonna face a RH PH and then a switch hitter? Why put in a lesser pitcher instead of walking Church? Why is your pitcher's spot leading off the inning after a doubleswitch?
  23. That was an "I haven't played in a week" at bat by Felix. That's what happened when 22 year olds come off the bench, Lou.
