  1. Why were they sending the runner down 3 runs?
  2. What's with Coghlan batting late against LHPs? Would say short bench, but he did so a couple days ago too. Are we at the point where Coghlan is considered a good defensive player? He has had a strong 2-3 weeks out there.
  3. This is an Estes like performance out of Clayton Richard. I'm amazed. Bring him out for the 7th (toward bottom of order), but get 2 guys up in the pen to start the inning.
  4. Utley seems like a guy that could give a team a nice month and a half down the stretch. But yeah, it's not really worth it to take ABs away from a bunch of sub 26 year olds (Castro, Baez, Russell, LaStella), to see if Utley could get back his golden years.
  5. Cubs miss Cole and Bumgarner this week, and have Lester and Arrieta going in both series.
  6. You go to hell! You got to hell and you die! Yeah, pretty much.
  7. Last few batters: Soler FC (coghlan out at the plate), Castro IBB, Richard hitting now Fixed itself. Said Soler reached and showed IBB to Castro starting with the bases loaded. Injury delays always screw things up.
  8. That was a terrible call. Either by Castro or coaches.
  9. Montero back on Thursday? So, do they dare send Schwarber down? I don't see any way Schwarber and Montero can co-exist on the same non-expanded roster for a whole month. Even if you put Schwarber in LF, Coghlan has done nothing to warrant sitting the bench.
  10. Bryant is just over 65%, Javy was below 60% [expletive]. Javy really sucked last year. I coulda sworn he was closer to 65%. Having those 2 and Soler in the same lineup is going to be rough when going against a high K pitcher.
  11. How's Bryant's contact % vs. Javy's last year? It's gotta be pretty similar.
  12. Same lineup as the last few days today. Schwarber again behind the plate.
  13. Lohse has given up 24 HRs and an .848 OPS this year. 5 days in a row Rizzo?
  14. If you look at my post in the roster thread, the Cubs have to add Richard to the 40 and 25 man rosters for tomorrow's start. If they do so, the most logical candidate to send down in the 3rd C (Teagarden). But then they'll call up a bat the next day (Richard DFA'd this time for good). It can't be Teagarden again unless there is an injury, he has to be down 10 days. Baez is the most logical/ready/helpful choice to come up on Monday.
  15. Going to be pretty interesting tomorrow to see what they do. They only have 1 spot open on the 40-man (1 spot on the 25 also) and have to add Haren, Hunter, and Richard. Medina is gone, but do they DFA him, again? Then I'd guess Eric Jokisch (is he really on the 40?) is gone. But who goes off the 25-man besides Medina? Soriano isn't going anywhere, and I don't think anyone else in the current pen is either (all would require DFA or DL anyway). The easy move is to send Teagarden down. But leaves you with a 3 man bench, though just for tomorrow's game. But it leaves 2 catchers for at least 10 days if there are no injuries. Today- Hunter and Haren on roster, Medina DFA Tomorrow- Richard on roster, Teagarden down Monday- Richard DFA, Baez on roster Starters- Lester, Arrieta, Hammel, Hendricks, Haren Bullpen- Rondon, Strop, Motte, Hunter, Soriano, Grimm, Russell, Wood OF- Coghlan, Fowler, Denorfia, Soler IF- Bryant, Baez, Castro, Russell, Herrera, Rizzo C- Schwarber, Ross Things really get interesting when injured guys are ready. Wada can't be left in the minors, I don't believe. His rehab will be done, then he has to be on the 25-man or released. LaStella is rehabbing now, and should be ready to go by Sept. Not sure when his rehab is done, but if done before the end of the month, he'll have to be on the 25. Then there's Neil Ramirez and Montero, who could also be ready before September.
  16. Everyone sits 1 day a week. Day 1- Coghlan/Denorfia- LF, Fowler- CF, Soler- RF, Bryant- 3B, Castro-SS, Russell-2B Day 2- Bryant- LF, Fowler-CF, Soler-RF, Baez-3B, Castro-SS, Russell-2B Day 3- Coghlan/Bryant-LF, Denofia/Bryant-CF, Soler-RF, Baez-3B, Castro-SS, Russell-2B Day 4- Bryant- LF, Fowler-CF, Coghlan/Denorfia-RF, Baez-3B, Castro-SS, Russell-2B Day 5- Coghlan/Denorfia- LF, Fowler- CF, Soler- RF, Baez-3B, Castro-SS, Russell-2B Day 6- Coghlan/Denorfia- LF, Fowler- CF, Soler- RF, Bryant- 3B, Russell-SS, Baez-2B Day 7- Coghlan/Denorfia- LF, Fowler- CF, Soler- RF, Bryant- 3B, Castro-SS, Baez-2B Or just go with the Day 6 lineup everyday. Of course, doesn't take into account Schwarber playing LF at some point. Either way, it's a good problem to have, with the Cubs going into so many offensive lulls this year. It's a great problem if everyone hits.
  17. Wait, Denorfia! Figured it was for defensive purposes. Denorfia bats in the 9th, maybe with someone on and less than 2 outs. I'm ok with it.
  18. Get Rondon up. he's the only one I like.
  19. Nobody beats the Riz. Nobody beats the Riz!
  20. Bryant is Pat Burrell, with more speed and the ability to stay at 3B for a longer period of time. Bryant's rookie season will likely look a lot like Burrell's when all is said and done too, down to being 23 years old. Of course, you have to consider Bryant is in a tougher run environment and playing a much tougher defensive position, he looks a lot better. Hopefully, Bryant's peak years last just as long, and he doesn't have the stinker of the season that Pat had at age 26.
