  1. I kinda wanted Craig Wilson to fill the 1b/lf/rf bench role. oh well Any salary figures known yet?
  2. Yes, but apparently, that didn't say when he'd announce his decision. Maybe (hopefully) the cubs took their offer off of the table, which would obviously change things.
  3. I'd go to the Dodgers. Crappy management, but at least they have talent. And former Cubs. Vin Scully + Fox Sports West = win. I am in man-love with Carlos Quentin and Chris Young so I pick the Diamondbacks.
  4. Who do you think we have that is better than Floyd and Gio? Gallagher and Ryu. you don't like Lilly, but you like Garcia that much? that seems incredibly irrational to me. I don't like Garcia very much and I wouldn't trade Gallagher and Ryu for him, but I think its a better package than Floyd and Gonzalez.
  5. Did Bynum remind anyone else of a black version of Hans from "The 'Burbs"? http://www.astrosconnection.com/images/sepatbirth/17_hans.jpg http://images2.sportsline.com/images/baseball/mlb/players/60x80/383402.jpg
  6. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say an average outfielder in his early 30s and a few not-so-great pitching prospects are not going to fetch a 25 year old guy who is at least a #2, and maybe a #1 if he puts it all together like he did in 2004. Oh, I doubt they take that deal, but it's a starting point. The bolded looked to be a large if, at times, last season. If he's rumored to be available- why not at least make the call? Jones, Veal, Patterson/Pie and a lower-level pitching prospect probably would be enough. Is it worth that? Maybe. He's darn good. I can't believe that you included Eric in a hypothetical trade.
  7. If we Give Lilly and Meche a combined 80 million dollars I am going to buy a sweet new Carlos Quentin jersey and become a diamondbacks fan.
  8. Who do you think we have that is better than Floyd and Gio? Gallagher and Ryu.
  9. Ted Lilly pitched 4 or fewer innings/gave up 5 or more earned runs in a quarter of his starts last year. How many times do you really think the cubs' best assortment of rookies would do this? Z did the same in roughly 18% of his starts last season. What's your point? Z is a #1 starter. Lilly is a 3. I don't expect Lilly to be a world burner. All he has to do is not get blown out early, which happened only 3 times last season out of 32 starts. One of our rookies isn't going to do that for us. We'd be lucky to be in half the games they pitch. We have some good young arms, but most of them are a year away from really establishing themselves in the rotation (excepting Hill of course). I think I may have higher expectations from a third starter than you.
  10. I just want to let it be known that I really really really really want Ryan Church manning center field for the Cubs in 2007.
  11. For everyone who loves Floyd so much, have you looked at his numbers the last couple year? Because I see a guy who has absolutely sucked in the majors and has not been much better at AAA.
  12. They can't trade Pelfrey until January 2007, since they only signed him earlier this year. So, this particular deal might not happen for another month at the very earliest. ohhh I forgot it took Pelfrey so long to sign...I don't see they A's taking any less than that package though, and it could possibly take more.
  13. The mets will probably have to start by offering pelfrey and milledge.
  14. I like Drew, but no way in hell would I have given him 5/70 guaranteed. It's better then handing out $18-$20 per year for the tandum of Meche and Lilly. I just hope they're not going after both. If they got Drew they'd still be 2-3 pitchers short. Is Meche going to do any better then Guzman, Marshall, Dempster or Cotts? Probably not, IMO. Certainly not when you consider the cost. Meche is horrible. Lilly may be able to put together a respectable year, I don't know, but I wouldn't be willing to gamble 4/40 (let alone 5/55) on it. I don't know about horrible. Over the last 3 years he's had a 3.88 average in day games (26 starts)...league adjusted that's probably closer to the 3.4-3.5 range. I'm not saying he's an all star, but he's not "horrible". He also has a 5.31 era away from the pitchers haven known as safeco.
  15. If thats all it takes then I would probably be down with that.
  16. We should not make bad trades with Baltimore. seconded.
  17. I think Billingsley is due to get better. He was a 22 year old with awesome stuff first breaking into the bigs. He has always allowed a small number of hits per 9 in the minors and his control should improve with experience.
  18. Assuming nobody is traded that might be true. I would like to think that the numbers he put up at the end of the year would solidify his place in the pen.
  19. Are you kidding? Why not? how about an ops against of over .800 last year in a park that favors pitcher. He could be good like he was in 2005 but I don't want to give up the prospects it would take (veal pawelek and gallagher have all been mentioned in the thread I believe) when there is a chance we could be getting the guy that showed up in 2006.
  20. The Brewers really did fleece the Sox in that trade, but why did they get so little in return when they traded Lee to the Rangers? Not only did they give up lee but imo the Rangers also got the best prospect in the deal.
  21. I don't like when they put the Jerseys over the suits.
