  2. Where did this rumor come from?
  3. Anyone notice this? I like the idea that maybe Derosa wasn't given the starting base job, but is a backup plan in case improvements can't be made.
  4. Beane has continually lost his guys over the years and he keeps building playoff teams. If Hendry had shown in the past to be able to keep improving the team despite losing star players I would not mind so much if he wasn't able to re-sign a guy like Ramirez.
  5. Santo is not very good on the radio from a neutral perspective judging him critically but as a cub fan his true love for the team does something to counteract his lack of analytical talent. And Ron and Pat play off each other so well. Without Pat to balance Ron I think Ron would probably be unbearable.
  6. Shouldn't you also look at LD% when looking at BABIP? I think it shows luck(unluck) when the player still makes hard contact the same amount but his IP average fluctuates.
  7. I believe Saltalamacchia was hurt (hand?) in the beginning of the year and never really got untracked until the last month of the season. What he did do this year, as I gather, is drastically improve his game calling and defense. Despite the down year offensively, it doesn't seem that his prospect status has taken a huge hit, and most seem to still expect him to hit someday in the majors. Aug/Sep stats(roughly): .338 ba/ .484 obp/ .662 slg/ 20 bb/ 12k/ 71 at bats
  8. Anyone worried about Westbrooks h/9? How is Derosa's range? I don't think I would mind seeing Izturis for Westbrook starts.
  9. Maybe he will finally translate some of his talent into production with the cubs?
  10. I want to go back to Saturday when we found out Aramis and Wood both signed to below market deals.
  11. I don't know how you can say that. DeRosa averages what, 10 homers and 50 RBI's a season? Soriano can triple his HR totals and he can double DeRosa's RBIs. Average and OBP wise, he matches up with Soriano, but that's about it. You missed the point. DeRosa was crappy for two years then good for one, and now he's getting paid like a good player. Soriano was good for two years and great for one, and people are clamoring for him to get paid like a great player. Not to nitpick TT, but he is not getting paid like a great player. $4.3MM is not chump change, but it will hardly be a huge drag on the payroll in future years. Also, is there any indication that DeRosa did something different last year that helped him turn the corner? His numbers last year are pretty significant improvements and while his last 100abs were pretty bad, he sustained pretty good numbers for the majority of the year. he was referring to soriano
  12. I don't really understand what point you are trying to make with this. I am pretty sure most people here would also be against signing Lil Sarge.
  13. To be honest, I don't see how signing a bunch of guys to cheap deals to fill out your minor league rosters is worse than paying a guy, who has been for the most part mediocre and is coming off of a career year at age 31, 13 million dollars.
  14. There goes my high hopes for the offseason....
  15. Heard from where? Davhearn said it on the last page telling me that pujols, howard, etc. beg to differ about older players having pop. I think he was talking about how you "heard" that power hitters peak at age 32.
  16. How long have you been on the list? Since 2003. How does a person get on the waiting list? There is a link on Cubs.com, someone i Know recently used ut, he was 20,000 or so. Thanks, I'm 21676 on the waiting list. Maybe I'll be able to afford the tickets by the time I get to the front of the line in 20 years! 21694!
  17. Not bad but you would absolutely need to get a solid 4th outfielder. Ryan Church, maybe? He is really underappreciated in Washington it seems but I still bet he would cost too much to be put on the bench. If we could swindle Bowden I would be all for that.
  18. I would definately make a move for Giles. He may not be any better than Jacque at this point, but he is definately better than him at one of biggest weaknesses, OBP. Trade Jacque and pieces for Giles and cash sign Drew sign 2B(Durham?) Giles RF Murton LF Drew CF Lee 1B Aramis 3B Durham 2B Barrett C Theriot SS I don't know if the money would work but that would be a great lineup (as long as everyone stays healthy)
  19. And Sheffiled ain't the player he once was, and his injury in 2006, willprolly be a precursor to a down yr in 2007. And Floyd would be a better (and atleast chepaer) option for the #4 or #5 in rotation, over guys like Aaron Small, Carl Pavano, and Jaret Wright. AAA numbers '05/'06: whip: 1.49 ERA: 5.28 h/9: 9.7 k/9: 6.49 Major league numbers '05/'06: whip: 1.84 ERA: 8.18 h/9: 11.2 k/9: 5.72 This is not a guy the yankees put in their rotation, let along trade anything of value for.
