  1. If the next two picks are Ramirez and Carlos Lee, I'd maybe say pick Albert Pujols. I dunno, call me crazy, but I think he might end up being a good one. As he said, it's a keeper league. I'd assume Pujols is being kept. Though, if the original poster wants advice, it would be good to list the players that are being kept by other teams (and your team). It's hard to guess who might be available. Would also be good to know what kind of league and what categories we're talking about. I think he said that the guys available for drafting are free agents from this offseason. I don't really understand how that worked out though.
  2. 49. Felix Pie 52. Donald Veal 80. Jeff Samardzija link Chat at 1:30 cst
  3. I just bought the mlb.tv package so I can listen to the game without buzzing and I came to the realization that mlb.com sucks. The site design is terrible. I can't even figure out how to log in and I sure as heck can't figure out where I go for gameday audio. Is there a subscribers page for mlb.tv? I have no idea because mlb has a terrible site. It also makes me angry that on the schedule they have little tv's indicating all the games are available on mlb.tv when I know that is not true. The only reason I can see for doing that is tricking people. I hate mlb.com.
  4. I think you want the Bulls thread. :P you are quite correct.
  5. The lob pass dunk from Gordon to Tyrus was awesome!
  6. here Basically its a ratio comparing a player's era to the league average ERA with park adjustments thrown in, as far as I know. 100 is average, so if the league ERA is 4.50 and your park adjusted ERA is 4.50 then your ERA+ is going to be 100. I am not sure how they do the park adjusting calculations.
  7. That lineup is about as good as I had hoped for! I wish tomorrow's game would be televised :(
  8. Isn't giving the team the monetary and personnel resources to give them the best chance to win all an owner can really do? Actually winning a championship takes a fair bit of luck that is far outside the owner's hands.
  9. If he does buy the team are we going to have a pool similar the the lou ejection pool, for when Cuban gets ejected for yelling at the ump from the front row?
  10. Look at his awards and tell me what sticks out. If we can induct Ozzie Smith into the Hall because he's one of the top two or three greatest defensive shortstops of all time while being decent offensively, then Kaat by analogy should get in for being one of the two or three best defense pitchers of all time while being a decent pitcher. Oh wow. I still don't know if that should get him in considering the fact that Once you earn a couple Gold Gloves you are much more likely to win down the road. Also how much is a pitcher's defense actually worth? Surely less than shortstop. Kaat was a very fine pitcher for a very long time and he may have actually deserved that streak of gold gloves but I still wouldn't vote him in based on his pitching stats.
  11. Why do you think Kaat should get in? I admit I just quickly glanced at his career stat sheet on baseball reference, but it looked to my like the only thing he did truly well was pitch for a long time. He has a real pretty looking career ERA of 3.45, which looks hall worthy without context, but the league average ERA throughout his career was 3.69. He allowed more hits than innings pitched and he didn't strike out all that many batters. To me he looks like a slightly above average pitcher that pitched for a long enough time to rack up some nice counting stats.
  12. I want our pitchers to be more like Steve Nebraska and strike out a lot of guys, just do it on three pitches.
  13. I wish that they released the votes so the voters would have some accountability.
  14. Stop nitpicking. The key is always putting the ball in play. Juan Pierre just hit very weakly. When DLee puts "a ball in play", that is much different than a "pierre ball" put into play. . I am not nitpicking. Derek Lee is not successful because he puts the ball in play a lot, it's because he swings at pitches he knows he can drive more often than not.
  15. Going by past history only, I know that all of the games aren't on TV or radio. If you would just like to listen you could get Gameday Audio for the full year for get MLB.TV which allows you the option to watch or listen only (because Gameday Audio is included free). I may be totally wrong, but I think with the Gameday Audio you only get games that are broadcast on WGN radio anyways. So if you live within range of 720 you won't get to listen to any extra games. Gameday Audio allows you to listen to the home or away feed. ahhh yes. Forgot about that. It is deceiving though, because I remember on the schedules they include a link for mlb.tv on all the spring training games, when in reality they only show the few that are televised somewhere, which most aren't.
  16. I don't really like that his key is simply "putting the ball in play". That is Juan Pierre to a T, and to most of us that is not a good thing. I'd prefer it if he said something along the lines of putting the ball in play solidly. That said, I am pretty optimistic about him. He definitely can't be any worse than Sarge or Clines.

  18. Is that show taking over the 30 Rock timeslot? I voted thursday, but Heroes alone makes monday a close second. If the Black Donnellys is good that might change things.
  19. It's been a while since I read it, but I recall that story being told in the book "Wrigleyville" by Peter Golenbock. I could be mistaken and if so I am sorry, but it really strikes me as familiar.
  20. If Mike Gonzalez doesn't get the closers job from Wickman, you will definately need more saves somewhere. Otsuka is setting up for Gagne in texas right?
  21. They traded Alberto Callaspo. They have Erick Aybar. But, he's more of a speedster, hit for average SS. As far as glovework is concerned, Aybar may be a better defender, but the offense Wood provides is not of this world. I suppose if I had to make comparisons, Aybar compares somewhat to Brandon Phillips, and Brandon Wood compares to A-Rod. Meanwhile, both are blocked by a SS (Orlando Cabrera) that closely resembles Royce Clayton. Go figure. I am sorry, but I think the Aybar/Phillips Wood/Arod comparisons are terrible. I can't think of better ones right now though so this post is pointless.
  22. Maybe he is going to purchase the franchise and change the name to The Barretts?
  23. Damn this thread for getting me excited about Prior's health.
