  1. The only thing worse than losing last night's game was winning the game. Unfortunately, that's what happened, I just don't see the point of winning tomorrow's game, they've no chance whatsoever against the Bucks. It just a dumb, fruitless exercise, at least, losing last night would have increased their chances at Wemba now, that's out the door.
  2. I agree, hard pass on Carter. However, is there any doubt Poles, if he stays at #9, is going to take Carter or a DB - Gonzales?
  3. Cardinals lost however, I'm a little bit jealous, Jordan Walker only went 1-5 he, nevertheless, looked good. Maybe his minor league success won't translate to the big leagues, but I doubt it, they have Walker from the 2020 draft while the Cubs have Ed Howard. I know Howard' recovering from an injury however, he's light years away, if he makes it at all.
  4. Could be worse. We could be watching Heyward hit GB after GB to 2B instead of Madrigal' soft liners to CF.
  5. Speaking of Dusty was it 2006 he said of Jacque Jones, after dropping a pop-up in Houston, that the ball was too high for him to catch? You know Dusty, always having the backs of "vets".
  6. I've seen articles suggesting the Packers are holding out for a first rounder. Thought this might be the holdup but, it's likely working out the financial picture that's taking time. The Packers demanding a first rounder is probably fluff because I don't believe any GM is going to trade a first for Rodgers.
  7. Are we certain Rodgers will be moved to the Jets?
  8. Do the 6 DB's include the one numb nuts is going to take at 9? Many think it should be OL or DL or WR or even RB at 9 but, I was thinking what if one of Witherspoon or Gonzalez is available? Some have suggested Poles subscribing to the idea of being stronger on the backside of defense than up front. Given what he's done during FA and last year's first two picks, could be a strong possibility.
  9. As an Illini fan, I’m not sorry to his backside heading out the door. He’s a really, really good offensive coach. I was interested to see if could maintain success after losing all key contributors next season.
  10. I’ll keep popping in to say one *should* be the pick at 9 (Quinten Johnston!) I'd venture to say Fields has probably lobbied for JSN at 9. I say go it, weapons, weapons, weapons, can never have enough, while Fields and a terrible OL contributed to his high sack rate. I'm guessing the lack of weapons also played a part most especially after Mooney and Claypool were out. Who'd give a second thought to defending a WR room headed by Saint-Brown, Pringle and Pettis?
  11. i'd rather have the entirety of Purdue's season, without a second thought, because this of course includes those 2 accomplishments you listed and banners that are hung forever this thread is having a real atypical hot take fest re Purdue, sometimes stylistic bad matchups occur, that's part of the beauty of March Madness If Painter and Underwood keep getting their teams invited, one of these years, the match up dominoes will fall and they'll get a breakthrough win(s). Look at Izzo last year lost in the second round, the year before in the first four, this year MSU is in the Sweet Sixteen with a legit chance to make the Final Four.
  12. How does Pickett keep getting away with using his left arm to push the defender away?
  13. Yes they did, don't mind Kansas losing, they've got a real shot at the FF now. Eat my words didn't think they much of chance, good for them.
  14. It's already not looking too good for Arkansas vs. Kansas, few rushed 3 pointers, not getting any offensive rebounds. It'll be interesting to see how much that Walsh gets to hand and body check in this game. Although he did get called for four fouls, he easily committed eight the other night.
  15. Hell, at least they managed to win one game in the NIT, I'm fairly certain this Illini would have found a way to lose in the first round of the NIT as well.
  16. The Illini can take page out of SDSU' book find a PG in the portal, a PG who's had success at a non-power 5, no more Skyy Clarks. I was really excited for the Illini when they landed Clark, had no idea of the baggage he brings with him. Underwood took a chance and got burned, wonder if he'll take such a chance again. Thus far Harris has already tweeted he's staying, sounds like Goode, Melendez and Rogers are as well, there's also a chance one of Shannon or Hawkins is back after testing NBA waters. Add a PG who can play to that mix and you've got a decent team.
  17. Edey scored 21 points doing that. Essentially, they double and triple teamed Edey and allowed everybody else to shoot wide open shots. Not-Edey shot 29% (19% from three) and turned the ball over 16 times, so they lost. We knew Purdue was vulnerable to teams willing to press, I thought it might show up at some point just not the first round.
  18. I’ll give him a pass on this year. Between all the transfers out and back in this team never jelled and was a mishmash of parts that didn’t fit together. I feel like Goode missing half the season really affected their ability to build a successful offense. Add in Clark leaving and he did a pretty decent job of making chicken salad out of chicken horsefeathers. I’ll be a lot more skeptical if there are a bunch of transfers this offseason. This is my take as well. Some of the post game comments from Hawkins, Shannon and RJ were telling. I think a lot were directed towards Mayer. Without a doubt, if Underwood was given another chance, I'm fairly certain he'd pass on both Clark and Mayer.
  19. Also read something to extent of Clark waiting until he collected all NIL monies before announcing his transfer. If true that's pretty slimy but, as I understand it, this kid is surrounded by whole entourage of people. If I had to guess, not all of whom have Clark' best interests in mind.
  20. I’ve thought that too. They’ll also have 2 first round picks with at least one of them hopefully being top 10. But I don’t think Poles is a splashy FA guy in general. Not sure if he’ll ever make the splash you think he makes. I think he is carefully building this thing up and doesn’t necessarily have a timeline in his mind. He absolutely should be trying to win ASAP with Fields on his rookie deal though “At least one hopefully top 10?” It better not be 2. It's possible even an obviously improved Bears team could still draft in the top 10. They may only win 6-8 games, I think that's OK, believe many of us know the rebuild is going to take at least this year's FA and draft along with next year's. Poles should be able to put a markedly improved team on the field this season I think that's all the fans can demand of him.
  21. Underwood has the Illini making the tournament with some consistency but, at some point they've got to do more than lose in the first or second round. With signing an extension don't know if his seat going to start getting warm. However, if things don't get better in the post season within the next few years, I don't think it unreasonable for Illinois to start looking for another coach.
  22. Please extrapolate. Turnover prone, don't take care of the ball - Illini had 7 steals - at times, too much hero ball.
  23. They can jettison Mayer to the Moon right now, if I were Underwood I'd bury him on the bench. I'll bet if you asked Underwood if he's done with this team, you'd get a horsefeathers yeah! He didn’t play the last 12 minutes or so. And they played fairly well without him, should have been sent packing at the half.
  24. Really don't believe Arkansas has much of a chance vs. Kansas while not as low IQ as the Illini. They're not exactly a smart basketball team.
  25. They’re also the only 1 seed to ever lose to a 16. Happened 5 years ago today. Think that was UVA losing to UMBC, interesting side note that same year UMBC lacrosse took down the #1 Albany.
