  1. Kerry Wood can clear waivers and should be available. Wood + 5 million in cash for a PTBNL would save Cleveland $5 mill and get them a prospect like Mitch Atkins or maybe Gorzelany.
  2. This isn't personal ranking, this is where I think they stand in the voting, and Happ seems to be getting more press, but that may change (and I could easily be wrong). Its really going to come down to which one of Happ/Wells finishes stronger. I don't think McCutchen or any of the other batters are going to do enough to really merit strong consideration and Hanson is already behind in wins, IP, K, ERA, whatever and probably won't be able to do enough, without going on some ridiculous run, to win. It'll likely also help Happ that he's on a more successful team than Wells. It shouldn't make any difference in an evaluation of personal performance, but I have no doubt at least some of the voters will give Happ more credit because his team has been better than Wells' in the regular season. Would you also say that the very same principle worked in Soto's favor last year too?
  3. Who's Taylor Swift? Sounds like an outside linebacker that specializes in pass rush.
  4. I would think Baker would be the one to go since they need a guy that can actually play SS -Blanco over a guy that can back up 3rd- Baker. Neither are hitting much so defense should win out. Did they send Atkins back down yet? Who goes down when Soto comes off the DL?
  5. It's not even that, it's a joke. So the team that wouldn't consider signing Adam Dunn to play terrible OF defense thinks they can get away with Fox's horrific defense at 2nd base?
  6. I'm guessing Baker get's DFA when they bring back Soto.
  7. When you consider how good the Yankees lineup already is and the fact that they get good offense from both SS and Catcher, maybe they can afford to put C-Pat out there to play defense and hit .200.
  8. Quit using logic and reason. Patton is the antichrist, eats babies for breakfast and started the Chicago fire. He is solely responsible for the Cubs not hitting during the first half of the season!!!!
  9. I didn't see the game. From the replay the bases were loaded, right? A squeeze play with the bases loaded is pretty dumb because if the hitter bunts it back to the pitcher they can get the force at home and probably turn the DP at first.
  10. Who's going to give up good young pitching for Adam Dunn? THis offseason MLB GMs practically blackballed him because he can't play much defense. To put things in perspective, would you be ok with the Cubs trading Marshall, J. Jackson and someone else (Cashner) for Dunn? Probably not.
  11. I don't remember anyone being terribly upset about Bruback as he had back of the rotation upside. Hill was a PTBNL so by the time he was selected from the group Ramirez and Lofton were already making an impact. I think people wanted to keep Hill too but there weren't too many. Keep in mind that Grudz was the 2nd baseman so 2nd base was going to become a hole sooner rather than later and we had high hopes for Bobby Hill. There were plenty of people (myself included) that were upset when Hendry got Randall Simon to take ABs away from Hee Sop Choi.
  12. I'm not up on all the rules, but I think I remember reading somewhere that MLB clubs are allowed to have their position players play in 10 minor league games before they need to be activated. I would imagine Miles is close to that number. I also think David Patton will be activated after he max's out his number of minor league appearances (I really thought they would try to hide him on the DL until September). I thought the rule was something like 10 games until the player can demand to be called up. So, if you have an agreement in place you can go longer. But maybe I'm wrong. I think pitchers can stay longer. If it is 10 games they could pitch Patton every 5 days and call him up in Sept. regarding Miles, how much ML service time does he have? Couldn't the Cubs option him to AAA (assuming he cleared waivers LOL)? I don't believe he has enough big league time to ask for his release.
  13. He came from an indy league team (about 3 weeks ago?) I'm guessing dirkx is maybe a Dutch/ Belgian name.
  14. LH relievers are always overvalued. Jeff Fassero for an actual living human being that plays professional baseball for example. The O's don't need to shed Sherrill's salary so of course they are going to ask a lot for him.
  15. Hopefully Soriano is back on track and the last 2 games haven't been flukes. Hope so too, it would be nice if this was the start of one of his hot streaks; they're going to need an offensive boost going into Philadelphia. It is certainly encouraging to see him take what the pitcher is giving him and punish mistakes. Philly's starting pitching will make less mistakes but if soriano can continue to not be helpless against that slider away good things will happen.
  16. Just got back from the game. Getting to Nats park was a lot easier than I thought it would be. I'd say it was about 65% Cubs fans there today. I think I saw about 100 different types of Cubs shirts and counted 19 people with "W" flags after the game. As for the game itself: Jake Fox looked really bad at 3rd. It was nice to see Soriano trying to hit pitches away to RF. Smardz looked really good hitting 95 most of the time. He pounded the strike zone and challenged hitters.
  17. Gives new meaning to the phrase "He's not the player we thought he was"
  18. Larry Biittner. Just look at his line from 1977. Seriously, don't look at any of his other numbers. I'm glad no one has posted Bill Madlock's numbers as a Cub because its too heartbreaking to think that the Wrigleys gave him away just to save some money.
  19. Some of these are a little ridiculous. Like Soriano could hit the WTC low and away.
  20. Great. I'm going to the game Sunday and will have driven 3 hours to see Kevin Hart get lit up by the worst team in baseball. On an unrelated note, wouldn't it be better to throw Hart on Friday and push everyone else back 1 day.
  21. soriano had 2 above average years for him the past 2 seasons though. that doesn't make sense. Sorry, I was talking about Bradley. Soriano is hiding an injury or downplaying the one he already has.
  22. I don't know if Fox has ever caught Wells but it seems like there's a decent chance that he has. Having him catch Zambrano seems like a really bad idea.
  23. Oh yes, I think there are people who want that. I don't get some fans who think being a former player for the Cubs means anything when it comes to managing the team The real question is what will Ricketts do? He's a Cub fan and very likely Sandberg was his hero too. If you're Tom Ricketts can you bring yourself to tell your childhood hero that you're not giving him the job he's openly wanted for at least 5 years? Hiring Sandberg would be a big splash type of move that new owners like to make. I'd rather he hired Jody Davis. I don't know much about Davis as a manager but he has to be better than Sandberg.
  24. If memory serves, Alou had a pretty craptacular season the year that he signed but then was a lot better the following season. It sounds like a lame excuse but maybe there is something to the idea that certain players have trouble adjusting to day games.
