  1. Neither did Babe Ruth.
  2. Sherrill right now would be a buy low opportunity. By the trade deadline he'd be prohibitively expensive given his talent and how the Cubs would use him. Despite his bad start this year (Which actually hasn't been as bad as either Gregg or Marmol for that matter) he's still geting LH out. It's a small sample size but the O's must take it seriously if they are already demoting him.
  3. Anyone know why Colvin is still at Daytona? He's not DHing anymore so why hasn't he been moved up?
  4. Because Sherill is LH and that is important to Piniella and Hendry. Also, over the long haul I'd expect Sherrill to be better than Gregg. Sherrill would also be under the Cubs control next year where Gregg is a FA.
  5. Thought I saw the other day that Patterson was sent down when they activated someone from the DL.
  6. George Sherrill has lost his closer job with the O's. Maybe they'd take Gregg and something else for Sherrill. The Cubs would then have a LH set up man in Sherrill so they won't feel compelled to use Cotts in every single game. Marmol moves into the closer role with Guzman, Old Style and Sherill setting him up. Patton and Cotts are relagated to mop up/ 5th-6th inning guys. Gregg, Stevens and Jake Fox for Sherill.
  7. I'd like to see smardz sent down and replaced with Chad Fox. At this point Fox has a much better chance of hleping the MLB team. If Fox fails they can then start bringing up Stevens or Ascanio. Smardz can't get better pitching a couple innings a week in a blowout.
  8. How many of you guys are buying that "I smell like strippers" shirt
  9. looks like you need to update your sig. Done Looking at the video clip it's pretty clear that he's not trying to hit a HR since he is hustling out of the box right after contact. For those of you that think he's on roids, he's not. It's HGH. I expect Theriot to be 6 feet tall by next ST.
  10. Freel at 3rd and Fontenot at 2nd has to be better than Fontenot at 3rd and Miles starting on a regular basis. Doesn't it? Freel has enough speed to replace the roster spot wasted on Gathright.
  11. The Orioles have given up the most runs in baseball (as of Friday anyway). THey have Ty Wiggington whom would have signed if he didn't have LH tunnel vision. Cubs get Wiggington for Patton- whom the O's could use and much more easily hide on their roster all season- Hart or Wells and another lower level prospect.
  12. yah, because DARE Day at the park isn't *quite* long enough...we really needed a double-header tomorrow. Well, at least Raisin will have something to do at work  That said, I'm having a hard time getting excited for taking a vacation day in order to be at the park at 7am to wrap a bajillion hot dogs. At least it's not going to be really warm. I am looking forward to the Chiefs getting back to their winning ways. Although I know it's necessary to wrap a bajillion hot dogs in order to most efficiently stock and sell them, I always hate unwrapping them when I have to buy 8 for my family. Here in Chattanooga we have the Lookouts (AA-Dodgers). It took me 20 minutes the other day to unwrap all 8 hot dogs, put "ketchup only" on one, "mustard only" on one, "mustard and relish" on two, "mustard, ketchup, onions and relish" on two, and "mustard and ketchup" on two...and then have to put them all back in the wrapper to carry them back to our seats...I missed a whole half inning! You could solve a lot of those problems by never putting ketchup on a hot dog, ever; not under any circumstances.
  13. I stand by my prediction: Cubs 8-154* *I assume one of their wins will be overturned. On the bright side, that would give them the inside track for the #1 pick in the draft. I'm thinking they'll go with a HS pitcher with shoulder problems or a LH hitting OF with no plate discipline.
  14. As fas the lineup goes, if everyone is healthy, Lee is still starting most games at 1st and moving Soriano out of the leadoff position (in the batting order) is a priority, I'd consider this to be the best lineup: Fukudome Soriano Bradley Ramirez Soto Fontenot Lee Theriot swapping Lee and Soto makes sense too. Move Lee to #2, Soriano to 5 and Soto to 7 is also ok. When Bradley is not healthy Hoffpauir has to play.
  15. The Cubs suck 8-154. How'd they ever win 8? It's a miracle.
  16. maybe excited is too strong. Would guarded optimism be ok? Thy seem to be trying to get him out on crap and he's laying off. That's encouraging to me, more so than slg inflated ops numbers. When he's able to play defense and gets to AA they will challenge him more and his slg will need to improve once he's there.
  17. It slows the development of his secondary pitches which most everyone agrees need work. I don't believe it signals the end of his career as a starter candidate as a cub. They could easily stretch him out during ST into a starter. It very likely ends his starting chances this year. Maybe they're trying to send a message to Gregg. Though once again the timing is strange. I didn't see the end of last night's game. Who gave up the last 2 runs?
  18. If he was DFA then the Cubs have 10 days to trade him or for him to accept a minor league assignment. A team might not want to wait and see if someone else claims him first. The Nationals would have first dibs and given the way things are going might claim him. More likely, Hendry already has a deal in the works or he's tried and has given up.
  19. Having Vizcaino on the team and being willing to release him whenever your manager threw a hissy fit over 2 weeks of baseball gave the team the same flexibility. Very true.
  20. Calling up Samardzija gives the Cubs roster flexibility. If they need to they can send him back down. This move only makes sense if they need the flexibility because a pitcher is sore but not bad enough to warrant a DL stint. Another possibility is that they may want to bring up another infielder at some point and this way they can send down Samardzija, go with 11 pitchers and bring up another RH bat (Fox) or SS (Spears?, Blanco?)
  21. Dodgers - "This is My Town - Dodgertown, USA" Wasn't Dodgertown their ST facility in Florida that they closed down? Nationals - "Get Your Red On" Maybe they are changing their name to Red Bulls Tigers - "Always A Tiger" That what she said Twins - "...and Twins"
  22. Guzman has the potential to be a lethal set up man. He will also be relaitively cheap for a few years. Probably half the teams in the league could use a guy like that. There's also a lot of interest because they probably figure he won't cost very much. As for Cotts, he seems to be the exception to the Piniella doghouse rule.
  23. Maybe, but that brings us back to who are you willing to release to make that happen? Lou seems to like Cotts for some reason. It seems like they are going to give Marshall a few starts before they relegate him to the pen.
  24. No, he meant NPC. Not Pitching, Calfzilla. :D Any other nerds read that and think "Non-Player Character"? Is that a D&D reference?
  25. it's early but I'm excited about Tyler Colvin with more walks than Ks and a 400+ obp.
