  1. Because from day one Soriano was a ticking time bomb just waiting to suck and in the process become a millstone around this team's neck. Then there's that stupid hop. There's also the way that he can't hit or lay off that slider away, the way he never walks and his stubborn refusal to even try to hit the ball to RF. And yes, I hate him even when he's hitting.
  2. In the grand scheme of things it is a non-issue, but I don't doubt for a second that Soriano thinks he should be told in advance whether or not he is playing the next day and shouldn't have to suffer the insult of being told day of that he's not playing. And I wouldn't be surprised if Lou did that entirely on purpose to piss Soriano off a little in hopes of waking him up or something. Soriano has always been a starter. How is he supposed to react? He's been bad for months, gets benched then goes out and gets 2 hits. I could see where he might think that the 2 hits warranted another start. I hate Soriano and always have but this is a non issue. I'd be a lot more upset if he said anything else really.
  3. It depends on service time. Generally speaking, a player has 3 option years where he can go up and down as many times as the team wants. That option clock starts when a player is first placed on the 40 man roster. This is why the Cubs were forced to trade Cedeno because he was added to the 40 man too early for no apparent reason. A player that is out of options or has enough service time has to clear waivers in order to be sent down.
  4. I expect this lineup: Fukudome Theriot Lee Bradley Ramirez Soriano Fontenot Soto Pitcher Maybe flip Bradley and Ramirez once he shows that he's healthy and back.
  5. Fuld and Hart/ Shark down for Johson and Guzman are obvious moves. Patton to the DL for Ramirez is possible. Harden to the DL is another possibility.
  6. I think you overestimate Wells' chances by 8%.
  7. From the Cubs: Jake Fox is still a bat with no position. Randy Wells will eventually turn into a pumpkin. at AAA: Chris Robinson could be expendable since the Cubs have a relatively young Soto and Clevenger at AAA plus Wellington Castillo if he hits any at AA. at AA: Tyler Colvin has hit well at Tenn. Not that the Cubs would throw him in for just anybody but they did just use the #1 pick on a cf and there are doubts that Colvin can stick in CF.
  8. How is it that the Cubs reacquired Matt Craig?
  9. Can't upgrade the offense antywhere except 2nd base due to the salaries the Cubs are paying the guys that they already have. It would be hard to find an offensive upgrade at SS that is actually available for what the Cubs could pay. What the Cubs need to upgrade the offense is for either Soriano or Bradley to have an injury that keeps them out until Sept.
  10. I knew that name sounded familiar. He was an untouchable prospect for the Red Sox for a while there.
  11. Why would the Rockies want Freel? I have no idea of what the Rockies need but if they needed a guy like Freel why not just keep Baker? I do believe Freel will be DFA as soon as Miles comes back.
  12. Hedley Lamar " What PEDs have you used?" Burnitz "Steroids, HGH, amphetamines and Steroids" Hedley Lamar "You said steroids twice" Burnitz "I like steroids"
  13. I've been thinking of starting a thread to address the real reason why the Cubs stink this year: they have too many guys with 2 first names on the team. The list: Derrek Lee Aaron Miles Milton Bradley Sean Marshall Kevin Gregg Ted Lilly You could also make a case for: Kevin Hart (remember Hart Lee Dykes?) Jake Fox (mulder) Kosuke Fukudome But now I can't because that would not be educational enough to warrant your attention. Thanks a lot.
  14. The Cubs never use their 7th reliever unless they're in extra innings or they're down a lot. Might as well be Patton as anybody else in that role. Hendry probably sees Patton's ceiling as a future closer otherwise he wouldn't bother. This team has much bigger problems than David Patton.
  15. The rest of the article is pretty interesting. It seems that Bradley has been having a difficult time adjusting to his new surroundings. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-27-cubs-milton-bradley-side-jun27,0,40471.story Dear Alphonso Soriano, shut up and start hitting. No one cares what you think.
  16. MLB probably thinks it's a good thing to keep the Cubs payroll stagnant. But in reality these negotiations have not held the payroll hostage. It's risen steadily since it was announced they were up for sale. It's Hendry's fault for committing the 2009/2010 dollars that he committed if he feels held hostage at this point. Why, its in their best interest just to have the Cubs in the playoffs. Bud Selig used to own the Brewers.
  17. Street has a lot of value. Atkins has practically no value but there is no chance at all that they are going to take significantly less for Street just to get rid of Atkins. If you want Street in the deal the Rockies have to get more than veterans that won't save them any money or dubious "prospects". Atkins could probably be had for somebody like Ryan Harvey (if he hadn't already been released) but Hendry doesn't want to/ can't take on any more payroll or he's plain not i9nterested in Atkins.
  18. Salary dump deals work in 1 or 2 ways. The dumping team pays none of the salary and they get bleh prospects or they pay some of the salary for good prospects. Sometimes a veteran has to be involved if they do not have a replacement for that player waiting in the wings. Since the Rockies are looking to unload Atkins, I'm guessing they have an in house replacement for him. Thus they don't want any veterans. They would probably take a veteran pitcher however to replace Street. Marmol and Gregg for Street and Atkins. That saves the Rockies money, gets them value for Street and they can always flip "proven closer" Gregg at the deadline.
  19. Except....that was a book cover...not a video. :) Looking at the Amazon page there's a book and a vhs of the same title/same picture of Dusty But the cover above has a quote from Hank Aaron referring to "this book". I stand by my claim. :) I actually own that book, got it as a kid when I was playing baseball. I'd like to see that book "Do what worked for me. After all, it worked for me dude." The video actually helped me teach kids to turn their hips which a lot of young kids don't naturally do when they hit.
  20. Miles up, Scales down Freel up, Fox down The Cubs have Hoffpauir to DH in the interleague games so unless they face a bunch of LH pitchers Fox is probably a luxury the Cubs can't afford unless they DFA Freel. Maybe they will try to keep Freel on rehab long enough to last through the interleague games but eventually they will want him up since he has more experience at 3rd than the other options. The real dilemna will be when Ramirez comes back at which point they will have to choose between Blanco and Freel. Assuming neither hits much between now and then it will be a tough decision for Hendry but an easy one for us (DFA Freel).
  21. I've seen that video and it's actually very good. Of course there's very little actual instruction from Dusty Baker. In fact, there's a scene toward the end where Dusty contradicts most of what the good hitting instructor says.
  22. He really is a hit or miss pitcher, from start to start. I've never seen anyone go 1 great start, then not be able to get out of the first inning in his next start (simply due to control issues). O's fans know all about this. To them Rich Hill is the LH version of Daniel Cabrera: sometimes great, sometimes terrible.
  23. He hasn't graduated from HS or received his GED and gone to one year of junior college. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prospects/ask-ba/2009/267859.html Plus he'd never sign for anything less than #1 overall money. Which brings up an interesting point: if the Nats do finish last again, will they be able to sign him after giving Strasburg what looks to be an all time record contract/ signing bonus?
  24. Sign Glavine to be the 5th starter. Move Marshall and Wells into the pen. Zambrano Lilly Harden Dempster Glavine Wells Marshall Guzman Old Style Marmol Ascanio/ Waddell Gregg That's a pretty good pitching staff with starting depth to absorb the inevitable missed starts by Zambrano and Harden. Or the Cubs could sell high on Wells and get a Derosa type guy to back up 2nd and 3rd.
