  1. You could change Miles to Freel and still be right.
  2. Chris Robinson is off to a very good start. 75+ abs into the season is it time to wonder if he's figured out how to hit ala Geovanny Soto? Am I correct in thinking that Robinson is fine defensively and it's his bat that has held him back? This becomes important with Soto's struggles and possible injuries.
  3. Unfortunately, this dilemna will solve itself when Wells gets lit up in his next start. Regarding Patton, has he reached the point where he'd clear waivers if the Cubs wanted to pursue a trade for him? Down the road he could be valuable but right now he's a luxury the Cubs can't afford.
  4. Our local minor league team had a gulf war vet throwing out the first pitch at Cub Scout night a couple years ago along with some other people. The other people all threw the usual lollipops from in front of the mound. The Vet it turns out had pitched in college and the catcher was really surprised when he threw an 85 mph fastball down the middle.
  5. When the Cubs released him he wasn't even good enough to play 1st defensively and he had no speed to play OF at all. His one skill, hitting for power, seemed to have abandoned him.
  6. Yeah, on the other hand, if your MLB manager asks you to be more patient and then you respond by first-pitch hacking 3 straight times, you're an idiot. Maybe Lou said something more vague like "Wait for a good pitch to hit" and Fox got 3 first pitch fastballs. Keep in mind though that MLB players are widely considered the dumbest of all professional athletes.
  7. what size driver are you using? i ask because maybe you're not concentrating on your contact when using a large driver...much easier to stay down and through the ball with an iron imo....just a thought. Also, could be standing too close. You have to stand further back with the driver than with irons. If you're too close, you could be having to adjust too much in your backswing. Lot's of people have this problem and there are many reasons why this happens. When you set up, try tucking your right elbow in closer to your body. This should help make your swing more compact.
  8. I'd go with a 5 iron, 7 iron and if you're feeling adventurous a driver.
  9. With Ramirez healthy and Scales replacing Gathright, Miles can hang around as a defensive replacement on a double switch. As long as he's not starting and since they have to pay him anyway he's as good as any other backup MI.
  10. Was Willie Mays over the shoulder catch at Ebbots Field?
  11. I'm hoping we'll be able to add Brian Schlitter to the AA list. He's been pretty good aside from one bad outing.
  12. Please Joey, refuse the minor league assignment and save the Cubs $800,000.
  13. Thomas made his 7th error of the season last night. Is there a concern about his ability to stick at 2nd base? Does he have the speed to convert to CF?
  14. Last night on BBTN they said that Perez was going on the DL with a "knee injury" which they openly speculated was ficticious.
  15. This is a pet peeve of mine. Is there a type of scramble where you don't play the best ball? Why not just say scramble? We'll all know what you mean. Otherwise, why not say "best golf ball scramble of golfing by using the best of the 4 golf shots as a team"! I'm sure at least one team will have already filled out their 18 under card before they've left the 1st tee. To relieve your peeve, I'll let you know now that there most certainly is other types of scrambles. Different players hitting where the ball lies is another type of scramble. I tee off, you hit the next shot, etc... No, I hit, you hit is called alternating shot not a scramble. We both hit then I hit your shot is a different kind of alternating shot (Scotch?) but should never ever be called a scramble. Not ever! Also best ball means you play your own ball tee to green and then we pick the best score. Better ball is the less used name that everyone knows as a scramble. edit: I see other people said this already.
  16. The way I remember it, Piniella had talked to Fox about being more patient before the game. Fox goes up and is 1st pitch hacking in all 3 ABs. Piniella reportedly saw this as an act of defiance. Fox might not have made another appearance the rest of the way. Piniella's doghouse is a place few escape from unless they are lucky enough to be traded.

  18. Put in Bobby Scales, then. I probably prefer Miles. They may as well have given Scales the start so they could see if hed be worth keeping around and getting rid of Gathright. I doubt 1 start would tell them very much that they don't already know. The decision to get rid of Gathright should be an easy one and has little or nothing to do with Scales in the sense that Gathright is a redundant part who contributes almost no value to the team. If Scales isn't the answer, there's Blanco or even Nate Spears. None of those guys are going to set the world on fire but at least they would allow Piniella to double switch one of the middle infielders if he needed to without risking playing someone out of position.
  19. the question remains: would Trammel do a better job? Even if he's suspended, it's not as though Piniella is held in solitary confinement cut off from the team. Piniella probably still makes out the lineup card. They can talk on the phone and decide who's available and go over preferences in certain scenarios. As far as in game decisions, Trammel has enough experience to do that just as well as Piniella. I'm not sure how a manager can do to fire up the team during a game or how much that helps.
  20. Given Piniella's hatred for Fox and the existence of Hoffpauir I doubt they'd callup Fox. Gathright absolutely has to go. IF they decide later that they want a speedy guy to play CF once a month that can't hit at all they still have Sam Fuld at AAA.
  21. Hendry obviously read your post. :D In that case, I'd like to see Joey Gathright DFAed and replaced with someone that might actually be able to help to team in any capacity.
  22. I say shan't all the time but I do so only to confuse and confound my students.
  23. I'm sure Hendry feels that he owes Fox for letting Dusty destroy his arm. I like Fox over Ascanio because he, like Smardz needs to work on his secondary pitches too and he's better able to do that in Iowa's rotation. I like Ascanio, I may be the only person who does but I could see him being the late season power arm if Smardz goes to the rotation or can't throw strikes.
  24. I've never once had a good burger or any other non ice cream related item from sonic. Burger king, is awful. Wendy's is even worse.
