  1. "For Rivera, I see a "jack of all trades, master of none" type of build currently." The Cubs have a type.
  2. such a disaster, from Halas Hall to Solider Field and all the way down the line.
  3. Then don't sign him to a big expensive contract. If he can't play CF don't sign him at all.
  4. If… they sign Belli I hope they trade PCA for a young cost controlled pitcher.
  5. In that thread there is about a minute of Dan Bernstein going off on the rumors from NBC last night.
  6. Any time there is disention this kind of stuff happens. I kind of doubt the Bears are leaking derogatory information as a strategy, but there could be someone inside the Bears who has a problem with Fields and is feeding stuff that is derogatory. That person should be fired if they find out who it is.
  7. Say what you want about Fields not being his guy, he's the architect of this team and its coaching staff. They were a dismal failure before he assumed the position, but they are arguably worse now than when he took over. An NFL football team is not an aircraft carrier.
  8. As soon as the WS is over, I think Jed should be on the bat phone to Jerry Dipoto trying to pry Logan Gilbert or one of the other young starters away from Seattle. In the minors the Cubs have redundancies all over the infield and the MLB team is locked in in the corner spot for a few years.
  9. right. People are running with this when the Padres have no track record of doing it and a long track record of doing the opposite.
  10. They showed a shot of Kevin Warren in the owner's box last night and he looked about the way you'd expect him to look with this team. I'm almost sure that Poles is not going to get fired, but he should.
  11. I don't think we will have anything to worry about. According to Bob Nightengale, the Padres are aggressively trying to sign him to a contract extension. But if they cannot the Cubs are not going to meet the demands of the Padres. They will have discussions and then if he's traded (big if), it will be to some other team. I don't think he's a good match for this team or the owner's philosophy of how he wants to build a team. He doesn't have a position because they chose to extend Ian Happ and give him a no-trade rider. I'm not saying this is a Cubs PR stunt, but if the Cubs were going to have a PR stunt it would look similar to this.
  12. Cousins tore his Achilles. Could be the Bears and Packers with competition for the bottom.
  13. The Stroman opt-out is a key piece here. I think they are planning on either side of that eventuality. I don't think there is a path to trade Stro should he opt-in unless they are paying the bulk of his salary, so what's the point? Without Stro - I think they need at least one top-of-the-rotation pitcher and I'm hoping it's Yamomoto. Then they can go after Soto with Morel ++. I would not target Soto if I were the Cubs, but that's me. With Stro- things are a little tougher at least for this year. I have no idea how they will approach the offseason, but they still have the same needs.
  14. lol, he very nearly blew the WS with his pen usage. If the Cubs had lost that WS he would have been reviled. He choked his way to a championship. Thank goodness for the rain delay. Then the Universe broke, so...
  15. Who is the new dude bro who appears to be ubiquitous on ESPN? Where did he come from?
  16. Yes, he should be target #1 this offseason. No one should be able to outbid the Cubs. After they lock him in see what they have left for other moves.
  17. He's going to play himself into the Cubs getting a great player in a trade. I think he's awesome and it makes Shaw or him very valuable as a trade target.
  18. The cover up.
  19. It's the conspiracy and organization of the "crime" that makes it much worse than any advantage that Michigan may have gained. This is a highly coordinated attempt to gain a competitive advantage. But now this is also a process crime as well. And that makes it even worse.
  20. I agree with Goony. Most QBs don't come into the league and are finished products. The ones that succeed are brought into an environment where they can succeed. Starting NFL QB is not an immutable trait.
  21. easy power.
