  1. I'd love to see the Cubs use Triantos in a trade this offseason
  2. I agree they have the money. It would be a dream come true and completely out of character.
  3. Tim are you into the wine this early?
  4. Does anyone think that Arizona stands a chance against Either Philly or Atlanta?
  5. Down go the Dodgers
  6. That is not a heavy lift for most Philadelphia sports fans.
  7. Soto would be a good get. There are two things working against the Cubs from the jump. 1) they gave Happ a NTC. and they seem to value his leadership skills. They seem to place an inordinate amount of value in that unmeasurable trait. 2) They will need to compete with at least one other team and probably a few other teams. in a trade scenario. That means the ante is up and up more. I don’t know if teams buy into the FV nonsense, but I’d guess they’d start with Wicks/Farris/ Brown and add Morel/Caissie/Canario and Arais/Rojas/Hernandez. That’s a lot for a guy who isn’t playing a position of need, is really expensive even for just one year, will be gone after the year is over. I mean that’s why the Nats traded him in the first place.
  8. I had this game as a loss at the start of the season, but Minnesota has come back to ground. I still think they will win, mainly because the Bears D is really bad, but I wouldn't bet on this game either way.
  9. I don’t think there is any chance that Wisdom is back with the Cubs. He filled a niche while they were bad but they should not have any room for him on a roster that intends to compete for a division.
  10. I like the easy gas.
  11. He was known to be a prickly player. I see no reason why he wouldn't also be a prickly manager. But I think he's prickly in the players' favor, trying to take responsibility for whatever went wrong. He's good that way.
  12. Why not get creative, move Nico to third, and have Morel take 2nd? To me, that's Morel's best position. The ONLY reason to do this is for defense. If they don't think Morel can handle 2nd, he's a DH. They're not going to put him in the OF. His best position may be trade chip.
  13. Someone has to take responsibility for making or not making a decision and that person is the manager. I agree that Hoyer, Ross, and Ricketts are a package deal and something significantly bad would have to happen for that deal to fall apart. They appear to be on the correct path given their own goals and tactics and self-imposed limitations on what they may and may not do. Let's hope it's a path that leads to lots of post-season appearances. I don't think having Ross as manager is going to "set the Cubs back" in any meaningful way. They aren't going back to the Theo days or the Tribune ownership.
  14. Agree. They either need to shorten the regular season or get rid of this format.
  15. Is Freeze going to crack the nut and get a win against LSU this week?
  16. I think it's quite a bit too early to write the epitaph for Young. He's on a horsefeathers team with horsefeathers players and a horsefeathers coach. They're going to have to get some talent around him and Young is going to have to get significantly better though. Drew Brees failed with his first team too.
  17. Looks like no break out for Alcantara in the AFL.
  18. Ross is not a terrible manager. His teams generally play smart baseball and play hard. He’s done a lot with not at a lot of talent. But he’s not demonstrated any ability to shepherd young players breaking into the league. He’s a red ass (baseball term, look it up) manager for vets. He has trouble recognizing when a SP needs to be taken out and he rides the bullpen arms that are decent into fatigue by the end of the year. Perhaps, some portion of those issues are related to personal decisions made by upper management. But on the margins where a manager’s decisions are most important, he’s not a strong decision maker. In other words, he’s more than likely not going to win as many games as he will lose. As we saw this year, those games matter. He’s a middle of the road baseball lifer who’s not a guy I want managing the Cubs when the time comes that they actually have a good team.
  19. Owen had a great year but there’s a lot missing in that write up. I don’t know how he can be considered a #1 prospect when PCA graduates
  20. the comments are disgusting
  21. Yes, he's won the Japanese equivalent of the Cy Young two years in a row and pitched really well in the WBC. He is rather small by starting pitcher standards, but he's been incredibly consistent and is about the same age as Horton. He's going to have a lot of suiters and the bidding is going to get high with both NY teams and the other big market clubs. Hell, even the Pirates met with him.
  22. A lot of us buying into Caissie as a top 5 prospect. I'm not there, but I'm also not that bright. The strikeouts worry me. I remember Tyler Colvin who I thought was a no-doubt 10-year professional with a few all-star appearances. Wiser people looked at his k rate and were down on him. Maybe it's a different era and I haven't caught up.
  23. If the consensus is that Williams is a "generational" talent (sorry, Kyle), they should draft him and try to trade Fields for what they can get. Then Poles better get serious about getting protection and skill people.
