  1. It's a bad gamble either way and should be a fireable offense if it happened. Which it didn't. There is no guarantee that they will be bad enough to be in the mix for whomever may be available in the next draft and it makes the team demonstrably worse in the season.
  2. Really good. He's basically going through the leagues like a hot knife to warm butter. He needs to get the innings in. That's the only thing that is stopping him.
  3. Can Canario now be one of the guys who got us here?
  4. Mervis is red horsefeathers hot in AAA and should have been called up a long time ago. I don't know what the Cubs are/aren't seeing in him, but I imagine it rhymes with dickhead boss.
  5. I think there are two divergent views here related to nature (mythical slow processor in the brain) and nurture (coaching that builds on strengths). I'm not sure that there is much in the way of nurture ability in the NFL. I know Brady sung the praise of Weiss, but Weiss was never able to translate that anywhere else, although that could be due to sloth. And we haven't seen a lot of mid-round QBs succeed in the NFL. The nature argument is probably mostly horsefeathers too. The NFL has a way of sussing that out well before the draft. I think a team has to be very careful to draft a QB that works with whatever scheme the team is using based on the HC/OC. It's not nature or nurture, it's compatibility. In the case of the Bears, when have they had the stability to do that?
  6. They are going to move Shaw around a bit and see where his glove works best, because to this point he is showing the bat to ball skills of MLB. His developmental timeline has nothing to do with BJ Murray. They are not linked. It's not a 0 sum game. If you think Murray will break in first, you are welcome to have that opinion. Denigrating Shaw or poking at his prospect status doesn't affect Murray. It's anger inducing.
  7. I think they may be trying to get there, but they can't get out of 1st gear. They have no imagination when it comes to devising an offense built around what he can do well.
  8. Life is suffering (The Boddha). The sooner we come to terms with that, the better off we all are.
  9. I like the story!!!
  10. Good diagnosis Dr. Houser.
  11. I like the Smoikes' chances tonight.
  12. or even 15 minutes.
  13. you just participated in a thread regarding this like two weeks ago. It's round and round. OCD
  14. As of this week, the Bears are a very secure top 3-5 bad team. I talked to my dad last night. He tends to be on the conspiracy theory side of things when it comes to owners. He thinks the McCaskey's are simply hoarding money in anticipation of their move out of the city. Hiring incompetent people and then not spending money is a good way to do that. I'm not so sure he's entirely wrong.
  15. I don't necessarily disagree, but the way it is calculated now leads some people to make posts or think like Dereood apparently does. More to my point, hitting HR is an incredibly valuable skill that is extremely important in the current MLB environment. I think there is a some amount (maybe a lot in some cases), of measurement error when it comes to defensive value. Schwarber is a bad LF, there is not doubt about that. I don't know what to do about guys who play significant games at multiple positions. There is value in that ability in itself (except for if DH is the other position).
  16. For argument sake, let's say they are 0 wins (0-7) going into the LA Chargers game, do they fire the OC? Bench Fields? Nothing?
  17. Maybe WAR needs some remodeling? Especially for position and defense. Everything needs to be set to 0 by position so you aren't comparing position players playing different positions by defense value. We all know a SS is a more valuable defensive player than say a 1B, it doesn't need to be baked into the system. A guy like Swanson should be compared to other SS, not a RF. Schwarber is an incredibly valuable player.
  18. Bears remaining schedule @ KC (easy loss) Denver (toss up) @ Washington (loss) Minnesota (loss) Las Vegas (toss up) @ LA Chargers (loss) @ NOLA (loss) Carolina (winnable game) @ Detroit (loss) Minnesota (loss) Detroit (loss) @ Cleveland (loss) Pheonix (winnable game) Atlanta (winnable game) @ GB (duh) If they win all the toss ups and winnable games they will be 5-12.
  19. I don't thing you are wrong. It's crazy that they can botch this stuff so bad every time.
  20. If Saban loses to Kiffin, the calls for retirement are going to start to get loud. People around here are already whispering it. Saban's power was recruiting and hiring really good assistants. It' is waning.
  21. He's the star that Jed and Co. targeted this offseason. That's an indictment in itself. The first warning sign is when a good organization chooses to move on from a player. But there are always teams like the Cubs to throw a lot of money at "leadership" skills.

  23. I was at that game. The dude that hit it went to hit like three more for the rest of his brief career in baseball.
