  1. The talent is there, maybe not the coaching. I'm not saying they're playoff caliber but certainly better than the Keystone Cops movie they put on last week.
  2. Let's try and keep this about Alonso. The Ricketts are not going to blow past the luxury tax, so expectations should be that they will spend to it but not over it for an extended period. If they target Ohtani, that's likely it for the Cubs minus some low-cost guys. There are other threads to bitch about the Ricketts extra-Cubs activities.
  3. It's never too early to make an example out of a player not performing to expectations in such a blatant way.
  4. I noticed that in the game. He's dropping back with his head down. Not like on the ground, but not where it needs to be. Those mechanical issues should have been fixed a long, long time ago. Same with the blocking scheme. This is a poorly coached team all the way down.
  5. Do you know who owns the Cubs?
  6. I don't know how a team could NOT be ready to start game 1, but that's what the Bears looked like. That's on the HC.
  7. Bellinger is not playing 1b full time. It's a waste of his talent. Any team who signs him in the offseason will be signing him to play CF.
  8. I don't know if the Sterns lead Mets are interested in trading Alonso, but if they are the Cubs need to make an effort. He hit his 44th HR last night. 114 EV.
  9. Didn’t they get new owners?
  10. yes. I'd say they don't think much of Mervis as a prospect.
  11. Maybe they should Costanza their decision making and do the opposite.
  12. if Fields' career as a viable starting QB were a clock, I'd say we are at 3 minutes to midnight. He has time, but not much. I would love to know what NFL insiders think about his development or lack thereof. Like did the Bears botch this on draft day or did they fail to develop what could have been a decent QB?
  13. I think you mean Hamstring of Athens, the great swimmer who drowned while delivering a message to Corinth in the 2nd Pelopanitian war.
  14. I think it's more like they checked in on him early when he was struggling and didn't bother to check back because he was written off.
  15. I may get to see the Bears two weeks in a row. Lucky me. It's hard to anticipate what to expect given last week. They were clearly not ready to play a football game and they had like 6 months to prepare. Maybe they'll be better this week but I kind of doubt it.
  16. are we getting a week 2 thread or are we just going to keep bitching about the Bears each week in a continuation? I honestly, can't see any of the reasons for the bitching to change.
  17. unless he's hitting on students or abusing players, I don't know what he could do to get himself in trouble.
  18. If Blackmon only played against the Cubs he's be a HOFer
  19. Poor Pat has to sit and pretend like he's interested in what Sutt is shoveling.
  20. maybe so, I'll take Zaidman over Suttcliffe.
  21. Somebody had some bad tacos earlier in the day.
