  1. I mean on any given team 85% of the 26 guys are grossly underpaid. But do go on
  2. How much is a World Series worth? The contracts are the contracts, and players are underpaid for the first six years they are in the league. To use a common phrase, the system is rigged. Pay the man to put you in a position to win a championship. You can dollar and cents yourself right into a ****** team.
  3. I think Tim is talking about Yamamoto, but he's 25 (I think).
  4. Rangers - Rays (Rangers) Blue Jays - Twins (BJ) D-Backs - Brewers (Brewers) Phillies - Marlins (Phillies) --------------------- Rangers - Orioles (Orioles) Blue Jays - Astros (BJ) Brewers - Dodgers (Brewers) Braves - Phillies (Braves) -------------------------- Orioles - Blue Jays (BJ) Brewers - Braves (Brewers) ------------------------------ Brewers - Blue Jays (Brewers)
  5. Lol, I’m at a sports bar for lunch and one of the TV screens has Super Bowl odds up. The Bears are not even on the board.
  6. Good to see you posting here! Bellinger and Yammomato only cost money. I like that. Then they can use some equity in other areas (1B, 3B, another SP). However, they need to shore up the pen. They've been able to cobble a pen for the past few years but it's really inefficient from a win/loss perspective.
  7. I'm sure you have no idea, but WAR is not the final word on a player's value to a team. We already talked about this in the Schwarber thread which I'm positive you didn't understand. If you have a team that is power deprived like the Cubs the value of power becomes greater to the team. In life, context matters. If I thought that they'd give Mervis a decent shot to sink or swim or if there were other players in the system, I'd still want Alonso, but probably not at the cost. The Cubs have nothing and will have to put a guy there to play because pitcher's hand is not a thing in MLB. They might as well fill a need.
  8. 3rd best 1st baseman by War.
  9. The question is if they target Alonso will they look to lock him into a long-term contract? If not, it changes what they are going to offer or get for him. I imagine that the Mets will have no shortage of suiters for him. This would be a huge get for Hoyer, especially if they can get an extension worked out.
  10. The SEC is down this year. I could definitely see Georgia losing this game. There are no dominant teams in CFB this year. Should make things interesting come the end of the season. Michigan and Texas look like the two best teams to me right now.
  11. A big thank you to Raisin for doing what you do to keep this area going. I'm sure everyone appreciates it as much as I do.
  12. Maryland is gong to beat OSU, book it.
  13. The Patriots, Jets, Bengals, Broncos, Cardinals, and Raiders are 1-3. The Giants are 1-2. Only the Bears and Panthers are 0-4. It doesn't matter if the Bears win or lose against the Panthers. They are going to be the two worst teams in the NFL. It's awful, but it's also an opportunity. If they fire Poles and his staff now, put in placeholders, and start working on who they want to put in their place and trade assets they can use, they can set themselves up for a Hershall Walker-like haul of players. They won't do it and will miss an opportunity that comes around maybe once every 30 years.
  14. Who are we? His performance for the first half of the season is inexplicable given his history. And he had a great ST. I expect he's going to be better next year. I hope they shame him into getting into better shape. I worry more about Steele next year and he will be 29. He's a guy I would package in a deal for someone.
  15. Yes, it’s a dilemma. They can’t even lose right. Fields lives as a viable QB for one more week.
  16. Mine: I had them in the 70s win total. The early part of the season was rough. It got more fun when they brought Morel up. They never could get the bullpen figured out. Some of that was due to injuries. Some of it was due to lack of talent. But they have to do a better job in ST figuring out a pen. They do not have enough talent to give up games in April and May trying to cobble together who to go to in high leverage situations. It’s not a good tactic. Overall I enjoyed the season although it was frustrating. They’re going to have to decide if Ross is the right man to break in rookies and younger players, because the next couple of years they are going to be percolating up. I think Ross is an ass, but he’s not a terrible manager. He suffers from a lot of the same symptoms of many managers who were not good players but hung around the majors for a long time. it should be an interesting offseason to say the least. Thanks to the new owners for modernizing the site, and thanks to everyone here who makes our dysfunctional family fun enough to hang out with. I love you all,
  17. At least for right now, the worst team in the NFL is not the Bears.
  18. I saw a stat, don’t know if it’s true but it said the Broncos haven’t won a road game in the US since 2021!
  19. He showed that he could play close to where he was in LA. I think the best adjustment he made was his two-strike approach. He's going to make a lot of money next year and beyond.
  20. To me, it's the last chance for Fields to show he has anything. This is a worse defense than the Bears in many categories. If he can't put it together today, it's over for him.
  21. Until the Atlanta meltdown I really believed they would make it.
  22. Candy played on a one year deal. He’s going to be looking for his last big contract. Not saying they won’t try to sign him, but he’s not a good fit given their needs.
