  1. It's going to be like the Astros scandal in MLB. But it's nothing like the Astros scandal in MLB. Not even close.
  2. It's math. Yamamoto, Soto, and Alonso are three people filling three positions. Ohtani is one player and a DH for next year and who knows if he will ever start again.
  3. I don't think they need to do that. He's only under contract until 10.31.
  4. I just don't think the Ricketts will want to commit one quarter of the way to the luxury tax for the next eight years for one player.
  5. I think they will make a strong bid for Yammomato and probably also for Soto if he is put on the block by San Diego even though he doesn't really fit well on the team. Maybe also Alonso, although I have my doubts the Mets will want to trade him.
  6. The Dodgers and the Mets are going to make a hard play for Ohtani. I don't see the Ricketts willing to play in that game.
  7. I don't get it either, but apparantly there is some rule that says a team can't do that.
  8. It's hard to define, but he's not a confident QB. He lost his mojo and he ain't getting it back. Confidence comes with success, but some guys have it even when they aren't successful. Like Javy Baez before he got traded. Or a better example in football might be Brett Farve.
  9. it's the frequency, not the intensity of bad.
  10. Whatever penalty they get will be deserved. If Harbaugh comes clean and gets in front of this, it's on a different path. So dumb.
  11. sorry, Wesneski doesn't have very much trade value. Or what the Cubs would likely get for him will not help them in the short term and probably not the long term either. He's a failed starter who can't get LHH out. Unless he can reinvent himself like Adbert, he's fungible.

It feels like this playoff tournament has gone on forever.
  14. The bar has to be at the same height. The problem is no one is expecting Bagent to win games for the Bears and that's the expectation for Fields. At the same time, the general competence of Bagent to do the minimum is in contrast to Fields' deficiencies.
  15. I think things come back down to earth after this game and the fans turn their attention to "Who's the guy in college" conversations.
  16. "Hi, Rocky from Joliet here, first time, long time. dis Bagnet kid looks like a diamond in the ruff. He's no bum off the bench. He should be starting no questions asked when Fields comes back."
  17. yes, I don't really blame the Cubs for non-tendering him. Weren't they trying to get Nick to sign? But I also have a hard time with the folks who say he's not a valuable player. Any guy who walks 100 times and hits 40 HR is a valuable player.
  18. As long a defense is factored in there is a lot of measurement error and of course the internal bias of the system that values positions at different weights. It may seem simplistic, but at some point, you have to value run production and run scoring pretty highly. A guy like Schwarber is pretty valuable. He'd be much more valuable on a team like the Cubs who needs run production. I don't know how to factor that in to WAR. Like, if you Put Schwarber on a team with a lot of power, his skill set is not as valuable, but if you put him on a team that needs that type of player, he's obviously much more valuable. I think, like in most instances context matters most.
  19. A lot can and will happen in college football between now and the draft. If Michigan runs the table, McCarthy will be a big reason for that. Then the combine will be another opportunity for him. I have questions about his passing accuracy, but he is performing well within the system that Harbaugh uses. It's really hard to project, but I'd say he's in the club of the top 5 QBs in college football.
  20. Overall, a pretty ****** week of college football games.
  21. So, QB controversy brewing? lol
