Having lost out on Giles, the Yankees are still in a search for a centerfielder and may turn their attention to Pierre according to a New York Post article.

Now, Pierre could be returning to The Bronx as the Yankees’ center-fielder. The cash-dumping Marlins have asked for lefty Sean Henn and right-handed reliever Scott Proctor for Pierre, and the Yankees didn’t reject the offer.

I think the Cubs could beat that offer if we wanted to, but I'd prefer to pursue Bradley.

Honestly, I hope that does happen so that maybe Hendry will focus on Bradley intead. Plus, Pierre wouldn't be a terrible pickup for the Yankees. Jeter won't have to lead-off anymore and everyone can slide down a spot.

Pierre

Jeter

Arod

Godzilla

Sheff

Giambi

etc.

The downside of this of course being that if Pierre goes to the Yanks (or some other team) Furcal will virtually become a must.

At this point I almost wish Hendry would just trade for Pierre already so we don't have to dish out some ridiculous contract to Furcal. I'm not a big fan of Pierre, but Hendry seems to be. If he can get his speedy leadoff hitter that he covets we can move on. Or at least Furcal and his agent wouldn't have the upper hand.

Also, anyone know why Hendry came out early in the offseason and said Furcal was a #1 target? Seems foolish to me since it gives Furcal's agent the upper hand during negotiations.

I still think the Yankees want Damon in the end, they needed to find some leverage and they found their route.

Between overspending on Damon or trading those prospects for Pierre, they'd be better off getting Pierre.

I agree for the most part, but we have to get a SS in my opinion. We simply can't have Neifi in the every day lineup, and if he does manage to find his way into it, there has to be more mitigation than Ronnie Cedeno. Furcal, Castillo, Lugo or whatever. I'd go as high as 5/55 or 5/57.5 for Furcal.

You would rather give up young prospects for Pierre than just money for Furcal???? I question that...

It depends on how many and the quality of prospects that we give up. I'm not excited about giving Furcal a 5 year contract.

Like every minor leaguer we have is ever going to see significant big league time.

I agree, I still think they're after Damon, but trying to lower Boras's outrageous asking price.

The advantage is that neither Anaheim, NYY, or Boston would likely even consider giving him more than 4 years at the most.

It'll be a bidding war, but the starting price will have to be much lower and we'll see it happens. One of those 3 teams will have to budge 1st, Pierre to NYY would immed. drop the demands from Boras, Anaheim dropping out of it would almost kill it as well. Of course, a team like the Cubs could jump in if NYY grabs Pierre and the cycle repeats itself, especially if the Cubs don't get Furcal.
