Both were imbeciles during the interview.

North bringing up the White Sox at every point is so useless when interviewing Dusty Baker.

"The problem with Corey last year, no matter where we put him he was the guy who came up with the bases loaded and a guy on third base!"

He would come up with the bases loaded AND a guy on third base??? Wow, what an unlucky guy

See, that's this organization's problem. We shouldn't be blaming Corey; we should be blaming the team that keeps putting 4 men on base and can't score them.

See? Clogging the bases is BAD!

Not that I'm, gulp, trying to defend Baker, but I think he was saying Corey usually came up in a critical situation, i.e., the bases loaded OR a man on third with less than two outs. Due to Corey's mental implosion during the season, he had no capacity to come through in these situations.

I think you may be on to something.

The one thing that I really noticed more than any was that even though North gave him all the opportunity to do it, he gave no endorsement to Matt Murton. Even towards the end when North asked if he would be disappointed if Patterson, Murton and Mabry were his outfield, Dusty said yes, without at least acknowledging Murton as a probable starter. I am worried.

Question, I get most of my cub news from NSBB.com. In the last couple of days when they have been having trouble did the Cubs actually sign Mabry? The last I had heard it was just a rumour.

Of course that's what he MEANT, but its so much more fun to laugh at what he SAID.

Not surprisingly, the most embarassing stuff was about Hollandworth. Dusty talked about Holla's "track record" from 2004 and how that created high expectations for 2005. Amazing that a big league manager would believe a mediocre over-30 career backup could be an everyday LF based on a mere 167 plate appearances from the previous season.

Mabry was signed for 1 year, 1 million.

The sad thing is this is the type of analysis the Cubs organization relies upon. Completely unproven "seems to" "usually" "always" statements with no actual facts to back them up can't tell you anything about your ballclub.

Corey had 8 at bats with the bases loaded last year. Burnitz, Neifi, Barrett and Ramirez all had more. And others had more total plate appearances with the bases loaded. JB hit .176/.250/.353 with the bases loaded in twice the number of opportunities. Nomar actually had similar number of chances to Corey, and hit worse, with a line of .000/.000/.000.

Perception is a killer when you don't have the willingness or ability to confirm your suspicions with a little fact checking.

One encouraging thing was that Baker was obviously not interested in bringing Burnitz back as a starter. He also recognized the awfulness of the outfield.

Facts and Baker do not go together. Even if he were shown the right facts he would find a way to deny them because of his stupid pride. I hope the Cubs get off to a slow start and they can this guy.

I have no idea if this was the same interview, but I heard him talking about the team's bad fundamentals... Basically, he said that the cubs were an exceptionally bad fundamental team because the players are mostly from other farm systems that might not teach good fundamentals.

Unbelievable.

Unbelievable.

Was the next question something along the lines of:

"But, Dusty, Corey Patterson was the single worst fundamental player on the team, and he came from the Cubs' farm system, what do you say to that?"
