Ha, I'm the first vote for the Falcons. NFC Championship last year. They will win the South, get a home game and win the NFC Championship this year.

falcons will come in third in the nfc south, not make the playoffs, and vick will be stoned by fans in march (one of those clauses isn't going to come true)

Really, raw, they're not that good

(friendly wager time)

I'm on the books as saying falcons won't make the playoffs, you're on as saying they will... given that they're the last wildcard atm (aren't they?) is this about a .500 guess at random?

Careless, at present this is the NFC playoff picture:

1 - Seattle

2 - Chicago

3 - Carolina

4 - Dallas

5 - NY Giants

6 - Tampa Bay

Atlanta is left out having lost to Tampa and having a worse conference record than the G-men.

Carolina can deal the Falcons' hopes a crippling blow if they can end the Curse of Ron Mexico on Sunday.

But they have another 4 games against their division. If they beat tampa, one of 2 against carolina, and NO, they've got a great shot.

The Falcons lost by 3 in Seattle, in the game Vick got hurt. They do have a bad run defense, but they completely shut down Seattle in the 2nd half (100 yards, 4 3-and-outs, 0 points). They lost on the last play to TB, IIRC. They do have 4 potential playoff teams in their last 5 games, but they control their own fate with 3 against the top of the division (tied with TB actually).

I don't know how anyone can vote against the seahawks. They have the most sacks in the league and they have the #1 ranked offense.

I did. I did the fan thing and picked my team. I think they'll go to the Super Bowl as long as they don't have to go back to Chicago. I think a Carolina/Seattle game would be a very good one however.

Most sacks in the league is an arbitrary stat to define best team.

I was not impressed with their lucky win vs the NYG. And for a team built on its offense and supposedly great at home, they've had some other close calls in Seattle, including 3 point wins vs ATL and DAL, as well as a poor showing in SF.

I think they are good, but no team in the NFC stands out right now. I think the NFC playoffs could produce some great games.

Seattle is usually very tough at home. HFA is very crucial for them.

How about for the bears? Teams the bears might play in the playoffs: seattle, TB, carolina, atlanta, dallas, NY. only NY is a cold weather team. I'd say the bears have the most to gain with hfa

Where is Green Bay?
It's in Wisconsin, about 120 miles north of Milwaukee.

Not nearly that far north, is it? (I should really know this since I was driving there a few times this fall... yet I don't)

The poster pointing out that no one stands out right now was right. The Giants were any one of three field goals away from turning the NFC into a 5-way tie. There are plenty of teams with great strengths, and they all have their weaknesses.

The reason I went with the Bears is because the Ravens proved a few years ago that a pitiful offense isn't a terrible weakness when you're defense ranks among the top ten pro football has ever seen, and that's where the Bears are sitting right now.

Teams like Atlanta are one critical injury (Vick) away from falling into the middle of the pack (assuming the pack isn't the group with 7 or more wins). While the case could possibly be made that the same holds true for the Bears and Urlacher, a defense can't possibly be as good as this one unless it's a full team production. Urlacher's numbers were under the radar for shutting down Tampa and Carolina the last two weeks.

The Bears offense doesn't need to be that much better than they are now to make this team the favorite to appear in the super bowl. What I really want to see is how the Bears defense matches up against Indy in Detroit.

I also picked the Bears because the Cubs weren't an option.
