Can you believe Hendry's benchpress? Dude was slingin' the weights!

take it for what you will, just posting what his family said

and I know where Capone is, but I am not telling

I know where Capone is too...it's his money that I want to find.

Mabry's a useful guy, and $1MM would be about right for him considering what Hendry likes to pay for bit players. He takes over the Hollandsworth role. Myself, I'm hoping he's joined on the bench by Hee Seop Choi in that upcoming Milton Bradley trade. :-)

i like when people complain about how ridiculously long threads get by posting in that thread, thus making it longer.

mabry > macias, i guess. at least he's got a little pop. i'd have preferred branyan, but oh well...

That's what I'm worried about, Baker playing him in left instead of Murton.

hmm, he joined in '03 and none of his other posts are trollish. maybe your skeptism is unjustified.

Hmmm. This would be a good bench pickup assuming Dusty doesn't try and sneak him past all the young guys on the depth chart.

Let's wait and see if we find something out about this.

Apparently, the Cards countered at $750,000, but wouldn't match the mil mark.

I'm surprised there's not more bashing of this rumor going on, Mabry posted .188 .236 .396 .632 post all star break last year.

True or not, I like the idea of him coming off the bench and spot starting here and there. He always seems to handle situations well and just about ruined Big Z's terrific game last year when he took Hawkins to the warning track.

I would rather have Mike Lamb, but beggers can't be choosers !

I don't like the signing. But I will pick and choose the moves I actively bash. Neifi and Rusch are the two that have pissed me off this offseason.

Reason: He's getting only one million, and he's still better than most of the scrubs on our bench currently.

i've accepted that the cubs' bench will suck.

But I think this should be seen as replacing Macias. And in that, I like it just fine. Mabry can play 1B/3B/OF and is at least more of a threat than Macias. I think this will be followed by the Cubs non-tendering Macias then a 2-for-1 trade that allows them to officially add Eyre to the 40-man roster.

Not too impressed with this signing. Pinch hitting specialist ala Lenny Harris part II.

His stats aren't much better than Macias.

He walks a bit more, strikes out more, and has slightly more power.

Intrestingly enough, they both played in the same amount of games last year, but Mabry had about 75 more at bats. I guess Tony was confident enough to leave him in for more than one inning?

Who are your other lefties off the bench now that Hollandsworth's gone? Not a whole lot of bench lefties with pop available. He's definitely not a liability defensively. He is a great team player and has come through in big at bats for us. I have no idea why he had approx. 150 ABs in the first half for us and 100 in the second half when the Cards were decimated with injuries. He seemed to be buried on the bench.
