What type of player(s) could CPatt, Walker and Welly bring the Cubs in a trade? It seems that they will be traded so could they bring the Cubs something in quality that could help?

Todd Walker, CPatt, and Welly are worth about what TWalk is worth by himself. So an easier question to ask, is what could TWalk bring us?

I truely think that some GM is in love with CPatt and will be after him. I still think he will be a 20/80/275 type CF.

That's true if we are talking major league talent. We might be able to get a prospect or two (depending on the level) for the others.

I'd rather Raul Ibanez than Mench. Todd Walker for Ibanez.

Wow....I'd definitely take Ibanez :)

Raul Ibanez = Jacque Jones, Jr

hmmmm.....Jones is just like Ibanez.....minus .036 in obp......minus 18 runs.....minus 16 rbi's.....minus .031 BA......oh yeah....and minus the fact that Ibanez is also a backup corner infielder.

Hardly. While neither is an impact bat, Ibanez at least knows how to draw a walk. Ibanez has put OBPs over 350 the past two seasons. His career AVG/OBP is 283/341 compared to Jacque Jones' .279/327. Also, as an unserious aside, can Ibanez really be Jacque Jones, Jr. when he is three years older than Jones.

Lets see....Ibanez is 33 (best years likely behind him, decline on the horizon), Ibanez career obp is only .014 points higher than jones, ba .004, slugging .004 difference. A career difference in OPS of .018 isn't anything to write home about. As for runs and RBIs, those are more team dependant. Ibanez is also a backup corner IFer...we don't need another backup corner IFer, so for our purposes, that's pretty moot.

So, like I said...Ibanez is Jacque Jones, Jr. Well, since he's actually older, maybe I should have said Jacque Jones, Sr.

edit: I was a point off on the slugging difference, it's .005, not .004. So the OPS diff is .019.

yeah....cause we didn't use have a corner infielder go down last year at the end of the season with injuries, did we?

I think their numbers last year pretty much sums it up, imo.....

Last 3 years:

OBP

Jones: .335, .315, .319

Ibanez: .345, .353, .355

OPS

Jones: .797, .742, .757

Ibanez: .799, .825, .791

There's an appreciable difference between Ibanez and Jones, especially considering Ibanez's numbers the last two years have been in Seattle. Also, who is our current backup corner infielder that makes Ibanez redundant in that department?

We wouldn't be using him as a backup corner IFer...he'd be our starting RFer. You usually have 3 backup IFers, someone else is going to be signed. I don't know too many successful teams that rely on a starting corner OFer to backup 1B. I wouldn't exactly call him a backup corner IFer, as he has exactly 4 innings at 3B in his career. Most outfielders, if needed, can pull a slightly-below average 1B. He's nothing special in that ability, he's just been used more as that than many other starting RFers.

As for the difference between Jones and Ibanez, I think their careers are more telling. Jones has been in a funk in Min for some reason, a change of scenery will do him well. You could probably expect a return to his career averages. I wouldn't want to commit anything to Ibanez...you'd be buying high who is approaching his mid -30s, and could be digressing in the near future.

I don't want either of them. I'll concede that Ibanez is a little better than Jones, but not enough to give up any worthwhile talent for him, or to commit to him for more than one year. I don't think you should expect a considerable difference between them next year if Jones leaves MN.

What happened to the talk of moving Walker to the Mets for Aaron Heilman?

I don't know but who does Oakland have to play second base?

Mark Ellis who happened to put up a 316/384/477 line last year.

Isn't he arby eligible? I wonder what Oakland might want for him?

However, I wouldnt rule out Beane trading him (I would never rule out beane trading anyone though). Hes coming off of an amazing year (after a bad year) and will be first time arbi eligible so he will get a pretty decent bump in salary and will be 29 next year. Most likely though, if Beane thinks he can sniff his 2005 numbers again he keeps him around for another year before he deals him for some good prospects.

I can't imagine the Cubs going for this guy when they already have Perez and possibly Furcal unless the Cubs don't sign Furcal. Perez is going to start either at SS or 2B. Ellis would be an interesting choice for the leadoff slot but since Hendry has to have some guy that can run the 40 in 4.2 in that slot I doubt he would go for it. That would be something the Cubs could look into plus the possible additon of Zito in that trade. Kotsay just signed a long term deal didn't he? I wonder if Beane would still trade him because he seems like a player Hendry would like.

Ellis missed the entire 04 season with a torn labrum in his right shoulder that he received in a collision in spring training. I thought his 05 contract was for one year - he was signed on as the backup for Crosby in the 05 season....he ended up playing both 2B and SS for the A's this past season.

He only played 7 games at short, only started 5 of them. He now has 3.136 years of ML service time, meaning he is eligible for arbi for the first time.

Yeah...I wasn't exactly sure how long he'd been up to the big leagues......and regardless of how many games he had at short, a statement of "he ended up playing both 2B and SS for the A's this past season" is an accurate one.
