I suppose I am crediting ITI to highly.

I just remember back to the beginning of the 2005 season when I was looking for pics of burnitz and hairston in cubs uniforms for my website. ITI was the only place where I found them.

It's probably BS.

That's also something that they're not really supposed to do, btw. Unless they took those pictures themselves, those were almost certainly copyrighted images.

Just found this out too.....

ITI is giving a free preview of all articles on it's site for this weekend.

Stirring up a good rumor is a good way to convince ppl to buy a membership once the free preview goes away.... :-k

Sound like a reputable website. That charges $80 for members. Isn't there a word for something like that?

I hate to denigrate another Cubs website, but this kind of bogus rumor is not outside the history of ITI. This is the same website that a couple years ago broke the "Pudge a Cub" story and talked about the "outlaw curveball" of Bobby Brownlie's that was supposed to be thrown at 95 MPH.

I thought it was them who said that about Brownlie. But I didn't want to put it out there and falsely accuse them.

Can Bobby even throw a fastball at 95 anymore?

Nope.

This just smacks of the whole pudge incident, too. They reported that he had signed based on an "Arizona radio station report" and pretty much guaranteed it was a done deal. That was when Steve Holley still ran the show there, but it looks like things haven't changed at all.

As for the Yahoo thing, ITI has an RSS feed that Yahoo picks up automatically. I've been meaning to set one of those up for NSBB, but we haven't been writing too many front page articles lately anyway!

Anyone have a pic of that Mr. Bogus guy? Here he is:

One of my sources, on the condition of anonymity, has leaked the details of the $100m/6yr deal that the Cubs have offered Furcal. It breaks down as follows...

2006: $6m

2007: $7m

2008: $8m

2009: $9m

2010: $10m

2011: $60m team option vs $3m buyout

That's hilarious, Diffusion :D

The article doesn't make much sense. $100 million? That's insane. Also, it looks like ITI is doing a free preview weekend trying to get more people to buy their membership by giving out juicy information that can only be found on their site (don't see Furcal almost a Cub on any other site). ITI is usually pretty good about their information, but this one leaves me puzzled.

For what it's worth, yahoo has also listed this rumor:

Didn't the SunTimes say Pudge was a Cub too?

Well, we know the bonuses based on performance are bogus so I give the rumor zero credibility.

Oh, I see now these are "titles" - is that allowed? I wouldn't pick the Cubs to win anything with that middle infield. I thought Hendry liked guys who catch the ball? Maybe its guys that throw hard? The obp problem will still be there and the offense will again disappoint. Wood and Prior still have to be healthy. This better be false.

I think the Score said something like it, but I don't think any newspapers reported it. Not 100% sure though.

Just another side note, this website has given away free passes before. It's not some hook-and-lure thing. You guys are paranoid! Like I said, I honestly believe this rumor isn't a rumor and is something that was told by a reputable source. That doesn't mean its going to happen, but you should at the minimum be thrilled that your Cubs are making a concentrated effort to get some talent into Wrigley. Cross your fingers!

That's the same exact "article" that appears on ITI. Tim has already mentioned that yahoo carries the ITI stuff automatically via RSS feed.

I'm all for this move, but not at this cost for either player. That being said, I doubt it'll happen. It has to be bogus.

P.S. - Since Furcal would be one of the first FA signings, can you imagine how much money Boras would then want for Damon? Or how much Giles could command? Talk about screwing not only yourselves, but all of MLB.

Yeah, the Score picked up on the ITI note (or it may have been the other way around) and reported the same thing from the same bogus AZ radio source.

Exactly. The FA market has not shown to be a bell curve, more like the foot of a cliff. Don't you think Eyre and Howry would be demanding more money if we hadn't signed them before Ryan's insane deal? Maybe Hendry realizes he needs to overwhelm Furcal with a deal NOW. Hendry's not an idiot, and we have money.

Bruce Levine discounted the Furcal for $100M 'rumor', but said the trade with Texas is something "the Cubs would do" and would be a "positive" move, with the exception of Soriano's defensive liability.

Levine is on ESPN1000AM right now co-hosting a show called Baseball 365.

Just out of curiosity, but why do you sometimes refer to the Cubs as "ours" and "we", then in other posts refer to them as "your" Cubs?

I'll make a $12,000 contribution to every single person registered at NSBB if Furcal signs a contract that in any shape or form can be interpretted as $100m/6yrs. I'll throw in another $12,000 each if the Cubs make a Williams/Walker/Cedeno/Aardsma/2 other minor leaguers for Soriano/Mench deal. And have another $12,000 each if the Cubs then give Soriano a $100m/6yr deal similar to Furcal's.

So that's $36000 for every single person registered at NSBB if this rumour has anything behind it. There just happen to be 2755 registered users. So all in all, if it all goes down, I'll be paying out $100m myself.

Something tells me though that Jim Hendry can sleep easy tonight, that you guys are still going to be miserably poor tomorrow, and that I'll still be alive the day after that to have to suffer more stupid websites making up stupid rumours that only the stupidest person on earth could believe for one thousandth of a second.

If we have the money, why not spend it?

I'm trying of not spending any money on decent players, and trying to fill those gaps with par players (e.g. last year).

You keep talking about this website as being reputable. Name one major MLB signing or trade that they scooped.

They've been way off several others that are posted. Furthermore, this isn't the same guy that had been running the site in the past, so he has no history one way or the other. He's also not the guy that's given free passes away, so it still could be a hook and lure. I don't see why you think this guy/site is credible in the least.
