I hope its not true. According to this site we'll be giving up three of these five pitchers.

Jae-kuk Ryu

Ricky Nolasco

Sean Marshall

Renyel Pinto

Angel Guzman

By the way, the site references Rotoworld and 670 the score. This is what rotoworld has to say:

WSCR 670 in Chicago is reporting that the Cubs are close to acquiring Juan Pierre from the Marlins for three prospects.

One would be left-hander Renyel Pinto. According to the report, center fielder Felix Pie wouldn't be involved. Another expendable reliever probably would be. Roberto Novoa or Jermaine Van Buren could help the Marlins

it says the Marlins are looking for young pitching and these are five Cubs hurlers that might be had for trade. Not anywhere did it mention the Marlins are getting three of these guys let alone two.

My bad. That was a guy who commented on the bottom.

It's a sad, sad day when rotoworld is using The Score as a source of info.

*sigh*

Of course, if this is true, this quite a few moves for Hendry pre-Winter Meetings. Last year it seemed like he waited until February to do ANYTHING (besides signing Nomar)

Can someone plz explain to me why rotoworld.com had down TWICE the Cubs a were "close to acquiring Juan Pierre" (on Nov. 14, and now on Nov 23), and yet on the three MAJOR newpapers in Chicago, all you basically get

Hendry also is keeping an eye on the fire sale going on in Florida, where the Marlins are unloading talent. If the Cubs can’t reel in Furcal, they’ll make a renewed pitch for Marlins center fielder Juan Pierre.
(from Bruce Miles),
Hendry also is interested in Florida Marlins center fielder Juan Pierre, who could become a more prominent target now that the Marlins have moved to shed payroll and perhaps relocate the franchise.
(from Toni Ginnetti SunTimes), and
One source said they had interest in Florida center fielder Juan Pierre, who could be among those who will go in the Marlins' salary purge. They also have lesser interest in Kenny Lofton, a former Cub who is a free agent after playing in a platoon with the Phillies. Lofton is a favorite of Cubs manager Dusty Baker.
(and Dave Van Dyck from the Tribune)?

If you read the articles, you get the feeling that the Cubs are still "window dressing" about Juan Pierre, but if you listen to ESPN1000 and WSCR 670, they say Pierre is just about a Cub.

Is there a REAL reason for the degree of interest that the Cubs have shown Juan Pierre?

Rotoworld gets all their info from newspapers and radio sources. They probably have guys that are local to the city and type in the info wherever they hear it. If we are indeed going to get Pierre we should know in short order. I like the fact that everything does seem to be moving faster.

Remarkable. The Score says the Cubs have completed a deal for Pierre a full week after Levine reports that the deal was close to done -- and Levine's report was disproved shortly thereafter -- and Levine seems to have recanted.

Rotoworld hears of the report on the Score, notes, as it always does, that some media outlet is reporting a deal, specifically citing the Score.

The mlbtraderumor blog picks up the piece off of Rotoworld and now, voila, two sources: the Score and Rotoworld. By this logic, there are now three sources reporting it, the Score, Rotoworld and mlbtraderumor. Wait, four sources, the Score, Rotoworld, mlbtraderumor, and me. Actually more, since many more here have commented on it and, by repeating what the Score has said (w/o confirmation from anyone) we become sources.

So the operator of mlbtraderumor says that Rich Hill will not be made available, identifies "some top hurlers from the Cubs minor league system who may be available" (naming Jae-kuk Ryu, Ricky Nolasco, Sean Marshall, Renyel Pinto and Angel Guzman) and then asserts that Bruce Levine identified these players as possibly being made available to the Marlins -- the same Levine who reported that the trade had been made on November 14.

I'll take all of this with a bit more than just a grain of salt until something useful is ever reported.

I would rather have Lofton/Greenburg and trade the pitchers for an impact bat or sign Giles.

Lofton/Greenburg

Walker

Lee

Abreu/Giles/Manny

Ramirez

Murton

Barrett

Cedeno/Perez

Hairston, Blanco, Stairs like hitter/fielder.

Of course I'm leaving the pitching staff at 12 because IMO that's the direction the Cubs will go.

It's what I would rather have mg not what Hendry is going to do. I agree that Hairston/Lofton would probably be the direction they would go if Lofton were the guy the Cubs picked up and since for some reason Greenburg has been bounced of the 40 man it has no chance of actually happening.
