How serious are the Yankees in their interest? I thought I saw something where that was Cashman (or someone in the organization) basically joking around and saying they were going to put him in CF. Im almost positive, though, it was stated afterwards to only be a joke.

Who else is out there with the need and the $? I think he's stated an interest in staying out West (so maybe the Angles?) but what are the other realistic possibilities?

The CF joke was in regards to Furcal, not Giles.

I think the Yankees are legitimately interested. Torre wouldn't be calling on their bahalf if they weren't. I personally don't think Giles wants to play there, but he'll use the Yankee offer to try to up the ante for other teams.

Even Paul O'neil called him.

Do you think Paul O'Neil promised to hit 2 home runs for him?

Am not putting any credence into the 3 year claim by Rosenthal. He's a hack right?

Jmo but someone will give Giles 4 years.

Every report thus far about Giles has been 3 years to my knowledge.

Maybe so, but it's early.. Beltran didn't sign until January last year, so I expect something similar w/ Giles. Lots can change in a month and a half... However, I'm certain the daily Giles' meltdowns will remain constant. :)

Even the early reports for Beltran had him getting a long deal. I'm not saying that Giles will absolutely not get more than 3 years, but while that is all that it takes, there's no excuse not to be doing everything possible to get him in the fold.

Maybe one...but two? You can't just hit two homeruns. Do you know how hard it is to hit a homerun? How'd you get in here anyway?

Oh, and by the way, Paul O'Neil has to catch a fly ball tomorrow night with his hat.

Nice catch...that episode was just on tonight!

If Hendry would make a 3/39 offer, we could have Giles right now.

It's really upsetting that Hendry will give 3 years to Eyre at his asking price, but won't make a pre-emptive strike on Giles. who's more valuable? this isn't rocket science. if Giles wanted 4+ years, then i could understand the hesitation.

If Giles is really only seeking 3/30 so far, there really is absolutely no excuse for the Cubs not to be involved.

And if he is only seeking 3 years/$30 million, why are people suggesting JH offer him $39 million over 3 years.

Well, I agree with you there. Although, I still think 3/39 would be reasonable. I'd be pretty happy if the Cubs got him for that.

My question is: Who exactly is bidding for Giles services?

NYY- Not according to the latest reports. Even if so, he isn't answering phone calls.

StL- Not according to the latest reports

SD- They gave him an offer he could refuse, and he did.

ChC- Who is Giles?

So who are the bidders and where is the war. Or is this a Cold War type of war. If so, I want Hendry banging his shoe at the podium in the UN saying, "If we get Giles we will burry you."

I think the 3/30 is perceived as the home town discount given to the Padres and everyone else will be expected to pony up a little more than that for his services.

Sure, but the Yankees (reportedly) were offering 3/33. I'm of the opinion that that is a steal. Especially with the Cubs desperate for a RFer with some powere and OBP.

You honestly believe the Cardinals dont want Giles or arent interested in him? They are. Just more involved in pitching as of this minute..

I could see him end up in LA, Anaheim or Seattle.

With the reports of the Cards payroll, it's an either/or situation, not a wait and we'll get to you.

That may be the Cubs situation too. Either Furcal or Giles.

Oh I'm certain it is following the previous week or 2's transactions, and hey we all know how bad we need that leadoff guy so it's certainly Furcal!! Nevermind that Giles hitting leadoff would be a much better option than Furcal, he's a corner OF!!! He's not short and a minority, why would he leadoff?
