Ken Rosenthal is reporting the Padres are not likely to re-sign Giles.

Giles recently gave the club his final proposal, believed to be in the range of $30 million over three years. The Padres almost certainly won't invest that much in one player; they also need to replace free-agent catcher Ramon Hernandez, upgrade their starting pitching and fortify their bullpen, given the likely departure of free-agent closer Trevor Hoffman.

He lists the Cardinals, Mariners, Dodgers, and Yankees as suitors. No mention of the Cubs.

It appears Giles's price is a minimum of 3/30. Why we won't go that high is a mystery, but according to Rosenthal (sketchy source I know), the Padres are out.

I also found it interesting that Jacque Jones has set his price at 6-8 million a year. No way would I pay that much for Jones.

I wouldn't put much stock in this, just a week ago Cardinals "bow out of Giles race" .... Cubs have been mentioned about as much as the Cardinals have and have not come out and said they are not pursuing him.

I believe he ends up with the Yankees personally.

Does Neifi wear high socks?

I'm not so sure Giles wants to go to New York. He's yet to return Torre's phone calls. That to me, along with the fact he's included New York in every no-trade agreement he's ever had, indicates he has no true interest in the Yankees.

just my negative, nay-saying, hendry hating intuition. sorry.

True, Clemente didn't walk much, either. And boy could he catch the ball.

I hope he has found a new pilot.

Neifi could fly him around in that new private jet he just bought with the Cubs money.

If Hendry would make a 3/39 offer, we could have Giles right now.

Hendry just wants to wait until December 24th so it's like a christmas present for everyone. He's very thoughtful that way.

I don't believe Neifi has a pilot's license. However, I'm sure he could just peek over at the co-pilot to get the handle of it.

I've always been a fan of doing the holiday shopping early.

$13 mill a year? Do you think the bidding is going to go that high?

Perhaps he'll do the Epstein thing and go split a bird with Giles on Thursday. That way, he can get some family time with Marcus, too.

How serious are the Yankees in their interest? I thought I saw something where that was Cashman (or someone in the organization) basically joking around and saying they were going to put him in CF. Im almost positive, though, it was stated afterwards to only be a joke.

Who else is out there with the need and the $? I think he's stated an interest in staying out West (so maybe the Angles?) but what are the other realistic possibilities?

If Anaheim doesn't get Manny, Giles is probably next on their list.

The CF joke was in regards to Furcal, not Giles.

I think the Yankees are legitimately interested. Torre wouldn't be calling on their bahalf if they weren't. I personally don't think Giles wants to play there, but he'll use the Yankee offer to try to up the ante for other teams.

Am not putting any credence into the 3 year claim by Rosenthal. He's a hack right?

Jmo but someone will give Giles 4 years.

Every report thus far about Giles has been 3 years to my knowledge.

Maybe so, but it's early.. Beltran didn't sign until January last year, so I expect something similar w/ Giles. Lots can change in a month and a half... However, I'm certain the daily Giles' meltdowns will remain constant. :)

Even Paul O'neil called him.
