I've said several times that a trade with LA that brought both Milton Bradley and Hee Seop to the Cubs would be terrific for us, and I hope it's something Hendry pursues. With Hollandsworth gone and Walker sure to go too, we need a backup 1B. More important, we need SOMEONE off the bench late in games that is an actual extra-base hit threat, preferably batting LH, and Hee Seop fits the bill, perfectly. Plus, I think everyone in Chicago and all the fans still like Choi, I know I'd love to have him back on the bench.

I would SO prefer Bobby Hill over Neifi, too, but that's never going to happen. Too bad, because Hill covers the same bases Neifi does (2B, SS and 3B), with better OBP, better SLG, and better speed. Shoot, I'd prefer Hill over Hairston for the bench, as far as that goes.

We won't mention any gremlin issues.

I'll give you better OBP, but Hill is one of the few MLB players weaker than Neifi in the power department. Whatever useful speed he had is gone. And he can play SS in the same sense that I can.

Bobby Hill is a pretty terrible major league baseball player.

If a utility infielder's release causes 2 pages of posts, how many pages will we have when the Dodgers don't tender Choi a contract? He's gone and if they can't trade him, he'll be one of many non-tendered in December, when a whole new list of free agents are created.

Has anyone picked up Bellhorn yet? I think he was released, I may be wrong though.

Looks like LA is giving up on Choi.

Being an old cubs fan, would you say that the trades for Lee & ARam are 2 of the top 10 in Cub history, if not top 5?? The Sandberg and Sosa trades are in the top 10 obviously.

Absolutely. Gave up nothing for 2 all stars.

.

If he was an extra base threat 3 teams would not have given up on him. He's a walk threat, that's it. Limited RBI's, and that is what you want from a PH/1B and he really doesn't provide that.

Apparently the Marlins gave up on Derrek Lee in order to get him, and the Dodgers gave up on LoDuca and Penny in a deal he was in as well. No one cut Choi, he was used in two different trades to acquire good players.

The Dodgers received Penny in the trade, and he was the principle target. Choi was a throw in. The Marlins were dumping salary, they did not target Choi. I either case they were not targeting Choi, it just worked out that way.

You're all wet. In 320 ABs (roughly half a season), Choi put up a line of .253/.336/.453 with 15 HR, 15 2B, 2 3B, 42 RBI. His IsoP was a whopping .200, and it's been 200 or better his entire ML career other than his brief stint with LA at the end of the 2004 season.

My point is that teams didn't trade Choi to get rid of him. He was dealt in order to get valuable players.

Yeah, but you are mischaracterizing his role in those deals.

He really isn't.

The first sentence here was tongue-in-cheek, while the second is completely objective. There really isn't any room for mischaracterization.

wow, neifi's career .681 OPS makes him the toast of chicago. bobby hill's career .693 OPS gets him run out of pittsburgh. baseball's funny sometimes.

It may be objective but it wasn't accurate. The Dodgers sent LoDuca, Mota, and Encarcion to Florida. They received Penny back along with Choi and a prospect, who is still on their roster. It is like saying Alex Gonzalez was a target in the Nomar trade in 2004.

More like saying Murton was.

When did he ever call Choi a target?

Something else to consider is attitude. While BH with the I-Cubs, I had the "pleasure" of meeting him a few times. He was an arrogant , and I was overjoyed to hear he was dealt. From what I know, Neifi has always been a very well-liked teammate.

I'd love to have an outfield of (healthy) bonds, shef, and bradley.

I'm sorry, I forgot which team Penny was with first. Regardless, the point remains that Choi was used to get good players in two different deals, no one gave up on him.

well, if he was rude to you a couple times, he obviously had a terrible attitude.

Was that really necessary? Why the snide comment? I'm not the only one who ever had encounters with BH that said he had a bad attitude and was extremely arrogant. I have heard other fans as well as former teammates say the same thing. Since you have had no personal encounters with him, he obviously is a choir boy.
