ooooo. Interesting. Wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see someone pick up Fontenot.

I'm reposting this in transactions, by the way

I liked Fontenot's chances to be a 25th man, unfortunately this roster has about 5 of those. I'm assuming they didn't take off any of the crappy vets.

If I'm a small market team with a CF question, I'd take Greenberg and see if he could stick.

Reposted in transactions. We might want to merge threads or something. Sorry for the extra work, mods, I just figured it would get more views there.

Greenberg was DA'd? That's terrible! Unless I'm not remembering how getting designated for assignment works. Somebody tell me we didn't just completely get rid of Greenberg.

He can get picked up in the Rule 5 draft.

Is that the "you have 10 days to trade him" move?

You have ten days to trade him if he refuses assignment. Only "veterans" can refuse assignment. Greenberg doesn't have enough service time to refuse assignment, I don't think

If another team picks him up, he has to stay on their 25 man roster the whole year (either that, or the DL). If he doesn't stick, he gets returned to us, and the team gets a little money out of the deal.

I know that's how the Rule 5 works, but I was wondering about the DFA, rather than being outrighted to Iowa.

that's the rule 5 process, he was talking about designating for assignment, which is defined as removal from the 40 man roster without immediate assignment to a minor league roster.

These moves leave the 40-man roster at 41. Someone else has been or will be removed or there is a trade pending.

Release Macias!

Are you counting Eyre or not?

Shocked that Dope and Moore were protected (in regards to Dope - maybe Hendry decided not to gamble over a big name prospect who struggled in high A this time after what happened to Sisco). Disappointed that Sing wasn't protected.

I don't see why Greenburg wasn't even given a shot to win the 5th OF spot.

Couple questions:

Why is Soto still protected?

Also, who is Jose Reyes and why in the world would they protect him?
