I'm done even looking at this board for the offseason. The inevitably of the following lineup is amazing:

Pierre, CF

Furcal, SS

Lee, 1B

Ramirez, 3B

J. Jones, RF

Barrett, C

Murton, LF

Cedeno/Perez, 2B

Mark it down now. I'm gonna go cry now.

the sad thing is that we're now going to see 10 replies talking about how much they hope we actually do have that lineup.

I'm truly sorry for Todd Walker if this deal is made. Hendry already agreed not to trade him without consent, and to send him to the baseball hell of KC would be an indefensibly jackass move on Hendry's part. If we're going to trade Todd, send him somewhere he wants to go and throw him in a package to get a big name like Abreu or Dunn.

Huh? Wasn't this just a rumor or supposition? That is unless you and Todd are close...

Well, Todd definitely asked not to be traded without consent (read it in a cubs.com interview earlier this year), and usually Hendry tries to maintain good working relationships with his players.

That last statement contradicts your entire argument - if he maintains a good relationship w/ his players, why then would he tell Walker that he will not be traded and then go ahead and trade him a few weeks later?

Conclusion: Walker pulled an Ace Ventura and was talking out of his rear-end.

That's the spirit! Genralize and make unsubstantiated predictions! Where has it said that the Cubs are at all interested in Jones (other than Gary Matthews talking to someone at the airport)?

It's not a terrible lineup, mind you. But with the Cardinals in our division, the wild card will be the ceiling.

Why are we so interested in trading Walker? Assume for a minute that the Pierre trade is completed. It seems our best bet would be to then sign Brian Giles, keep Walker and Cedeno, instead of Furcal and have an everyday lineup of something like:

Pierre, CF

Giles, RF

Lee, 1B

Ramirez, 3B

Walker, 2B

Murton, LF

Barrett, C

Cedeno, SS

Seems like this lineup is better than spending money for Furcal if we already have Pierre. That doesn't really address this trade other than to say trading Walker for a mediocre reliever seems like a waste.

This is what a smart team would do. I'd much rather have Giles/Neifi/Walker over P. Wilson/Furcal/Neifi. And yes I put Neifi in there because as long as he isn't hurt, he will be starting on Dusty's squad.

Hendry has had a man crush on Jacque Jones for years.

Right-hander Mike MacDougal's BAA:

for 2002-2004

vs. LH: .240

vs. RH: .292

for 2005

vs. LH: .240

vs. RH: .270

This is NOT the type of pitcher you want to give to Dusty Baker.

interesting stats, not quite Remlinger esque, but still interesting

No, they're not as extreme as Remlinger's splits, but they're significant enough to scare me away as long as Dusty is here. That .292 bothers me. I guarantee you the first time MacDougal gives up a game-winning hit to a righty you'll hear plenty of bitching around here. I'd much rather stick with relievers with standard splits

Look, I really do not want to argue about this. Someone just point me to the source that says JH has any interest in Jones, man-crush, infatuation...whatever.

And if he winds up signing him I'll eat crow. 8)

Sadly, it is better than last years.

The Cubs were interested in trading for him last year before he re-signed with the Twins. He was thought to be avaliable last year so the Twins could re-sign Shannon Stewart, he almost certainly will not be back with Minnesota this year (I think Kubel's healthy this year and is ready to play).

If the Cubs deal Sosa to the Mets for Floyd, it's been widely assumed their next move would be to chase Carlos Beltran. But the Cubs have also been exploring other outfield options. And one of them is Twins outfielder Jacque Jones, who could be available if the Twins re-sign Corey Koskie and need to free payroll space.

I guess I meant current interest, but I see what you are saying.

Isn't MacDougal pretty comparable to Bobby Jenks of Chicago WhiteSox fame?

Jenks is around 4 years younger and has much better stuff. Working in MacDougal's favor is the fact that he hasn't lit his arm on fire.

I laughed at that.

Can't go wrong by playing the "Jenks lights his arm on fire" laughs.

The beauty of Cedeno is that he is a younger, cheaper Neifi. This fact was violated by the fact that Neifi was re-signed. I won't complain as much as long as Neifi only gets 150 AB's next year.

I like MacDougal personally. He can be a good pitcher for the 7th or 8th inning for us. I woudl hate to see Walker go but at this point it looks like he is gone regardless so I woudl do this trade.

I know this was a few pages ago, but I just had to say something. Yes, it looks like Walker will be traded. But it's completely ludicrous to resign ourselves to getting bad value back for him just because he's going to be traded. He's probably our biggest trading chip as it is, so let's get something good for him, if indeed we are gonna trade him.

That lineup is in every way better than the 2005 Houston Astros, who made it to the world series on the strength of their pitching.

We are obviously built around our pitching staff. We should be able to win a lot of games, even with an average offense.

Just playing the devils advocate, as I know we should be able to afford a much better right fielder who would make our lineup one of the best in the league.

Here's a tissue. If you're right, I'll probably be crying, too.
