Carpenter won with 132 first-place votes, Willis had 112 first-place votes, and Clemens was a distant 3rd with 40 first-place votes. Edited by E.J.

Just announced on ESPN news.

Proving that voters feel W-L is the most important pitching stat. This award is a complete joke. Willis should have won it hands down.

How does THIS prove it?

Clemens won it by the same standard, last year, and others have won in similar fashion in years past. If anything your point was "proven" years ago, not today.

Dontrelle had the better year? Really? Carpenter had more strikeouts, a better whip, better baa.. less hits allowed in 5 more innings, less walks.

Dontrelle had more wins, and I thought that was the only important statistic. *sarcasm* Considering Carpenter pitched for the St. Louis Pujols and D-Train pitched for the Florida Fighting Lo Ducas that's even more impressive.

He also had a lower ERA.

i'm not surprised....all of these awards go to the wrong person 9 times out of 10, which is why i pay them no mind.

ERA+ was almost identical (153 for Willis, 151 for Carpenter).

Gotta love the front page of ESPN. Instead of saying something to congratulate Carp they have "Sorry Dontrelle..."

Cards' fans over at stltoday.com aren't too happy about it.

ESPN tried their best to get it for him too.

I must say I was a little surprised. I, along with Stark, thought the voters would go one way or the other, traditionalists vs. sabermetricians.

Can't say I'm complaining though. I hate to see a guy's chances ruined by two horrible games (Phillies at the beginning of the season, Brewers at the end) with that 17 game, dominating win streak he put together. And I know you can throw out everyone's worse games, throw out the best games, etc. Just sayin'.

Clemens was the best picther in the league this year, but I have never been impressed with Willis. Maybe it's because the Cubs paste him every time we see him. I have no idea how he wins as many games as he does.

Carpenter is a very good pitcher as well. Congrats to him. Nice cap to a nice comeback story.

This is just an honest question, but why do people feel Carp is undeserving? I personally don't like the guy much (him being a Cardinal and all), but I haven't heard a real convincing argument to the contrary. I'm sure I could be swayed, but numbers just seem so similar between him and Dontrelle.
