I think we should tone down our requirements for our RF. We don't really need much more than an .825-.850 type guy out there.

That said, sign Giles!

What if the three team deal is with the Rangers?

Rangers get Mitre, Walker and Delgado.

Marlins get Patterson, Nevin, Nolasco, and another Cubs prospect.

Cubs get Pierre and Mench

Cubs have a line-up of:

CF Pierre

SS Furcal (if they sign him)

1b Lee

3b Ramirez

RF Mench

LF Murton

C Barrett

2b Cedeno/Neifi/Hairston

I've heard that Delgado does not want to leave Florida. I don't know if he has a no trade to be able to inforce that though.

Bradley can play rightfield. If he can return to his 900 OPS, he wouldn't be a bad option for RF.

No way is he near enough an impact bat for RF.

Career line: .269/.350/.426/.776

Sorry, but these numbers are worse than Burnitz career, and equal to Burnitz last year with a dozen more walks.

I've followed Bradley since he came up with the Indians. The guy can hit and just entering his prime. I think he's capable of a 30HR / 30SB season with a solid OBP if HAPPY and HEALTHY. He brings a LOT of baggage, but I'd gamble.

My dreamsheet for this offseason has Bradley in CF and Furcal at SS. Pierre doesn't excite me, replace him with Castillo and I'd be extatic.

You're right...but I'd think it would need to be the Rangers adding a little more to the package.

Mench is not good. He is slow sucks at the outfield and he is not that good of a hitter. Similar to Burnitz in numbers.

Have you ever watched him play the outfield or are you just offering an uninformed opinion?

What's with the hostility today?

According to BP, Mench was a little above average defensively last year. However, the previous 3 years(which cumulatively is a couple games more than he had this year) he was decidedly subpar defensively.

No hostility. I'd just like some factual basis for his comments. Mench is no speed demon, but he hardly sucks in the outfield. I was just wondering if his fielding comments were based on anything valid, or just a blanket comment about a player he knows nothing about.

Vance did make the disclaimer that he would have to return to his .900 OPS form.

I understand that, but part of this issue with going through this style of discussion if the unpredictability factor of "form".

Last year Hendry could have easily argued, "We expect Hollandsworth and Burnitz to return to their respective career year forms". That would not have been acceptable for 90% of the fans around here. Granted Bradley is younger and more likely to return, but it is still an unknown. Do you see what I'm getting at?

I really think RF and SS are the two offseason spots that Hendry will target known quantities, as close to predicatble professional growth/decline as you can get. He may gamble on 2B and LF with "what ifs", but probably not RF and SS.

Would I acquire Bradley with the goal of sticking him in right? No. On the other hand, I'd get Bradley knowing I could move him to right and go another direction in CF if I couldn't find a better option for RF. Bradley is 27 yrs old, I think his last three years is a better indicator of what he'll do than his career line.

TheDude, I'm also worried about his durability. If his durability is a problem in center field, we can either fill it with Greenberg, Pie (if he's ready)or someone cheap via trade (Lofton?) midseason. In Right Field, we don't really have an impact corner outfielder waiting in the wings (or one that I could realistically see being dealt right now) to produce enough numbers in the likely event that Bradley's health goes south.

If Hideki Matsui does not sign with the Yankees by tonight the cubs need to make at a run at him to play RF. He is ideal. He is a lefty with power who can bat between Lee and Ramirez. Then hopefully you sign Furcal still and then sign Lofton to play center. You would let Pie start at least once a week for Lofton to help ensure he stays healthy.

Furcal

Lofton

Lee

Matsui

Ramirez

Barrett

Murton

Cedeno

That's where Hairston comes in.

if pierre can get his OBP back up around .375, i'd like to see him in chicago. contrary to the beliefs of many, i think furcal is a much better #2 hitter than a leadoff hitter.

How old is Pierre? I thought they have done many studies on "speedster single hitters" and how their production falls after a certain age.

Pierre turned 28 in August, and is a free agent after this season.

I have the MLB Innings thing where you get all the games. I have watched Mench and he is just an average player. He frequently takes bad lines to the ball and overruns them. His arm is also just average. I watched quite a bit of their games and Mench is just an average all around player.

This should make him pretty cheap for the Cubs player wise...right?
