I think we do. It would be a matter of would he want to come here. I have always thought ManRam would he great at Wrigley.

Not unless you want to give up Pie, Williams and Hill. And that might not even be enough.

Who cares. We gave up Garland, Willis, Joe Carter and I'm sure many others. Who did we get in return? My point. If we are going to give up top prospects, at least get an All Star in return. Manny would be a huge boost to the offense. Prospects are just that, prospects. Use them to your advantage. Dont get me wrong, i would not make a habit of doing this, I dont want this to be like the Yankee farm system, but this is Manny. I want to win, and the only way to do that is to take some chances.

That's what the Sox thought when they got George Bell.

I agree with your general sentiment, but like I said, I'm not even sure if that would be enough, and I'm not crazy about giving up the best positional prospect in the system.

It's got to depend on how much money Boston puts in too. You have to remember that since Manny is demanding a trade I think it puts Boston behind the 8-ball a little.

Very true. The question is, is Hendry and Co. even looking at this possibility. If it were me, I would look into it very hard.

I have to wonder if the Cubs want a high maintinance player like Manny. He never showed up for the Latino All Time greats which I would think would be an honor. I love his bat but not his glove and I would like some kind of assurance that he's not going to pout about money if the Cubs do trade for him. I have a feeling he will want an extension and I'm not sure the Cubs should go in that direction.

I would not want to give him an extension, but this organization has to make a splash somehow. The very least they could do is check in with the Red Socks and see what it would take.

I wonder what the Phils thought when they traded Sandberg to us...

This isn't George Bell, this is Manny Ramirez, one of the greatest hitters of all time. With some great years left. There is only a handfull of players I would trade Pie for, and Manny's one of them.

They can have there pick of anyone in the system except Pie for Ramirez. If the Red Sox are picking up a chunk of cash say 15 million over the remainder of the deal, maybe we can talk about Pie.

I really only see Hendry getting involved in a Manny deal is if we go out and get someone to send to Boston.

Keep in mind also that he's a 10-5 guy, meaning he can nix any trade.

That said, as I have posted on this bd several times, I would love to have him.

I wouldn't rule him out.

I agree with your sentiment but personally I would rather they do it to try to get Abreu or Dunn. Manny's defense, personality quirks and HUGE salary make me a little more wary of selling the farm.

did I mention Manny hit 417 in the world Series? If Dusty is the manager he is supposed to deal with guys like Manny. I would have put up with all of Sosa's antics had he kept producing like Manny. Manny is a once in a generation type player.

How many more years can Manny keep hitting like this? How old is he I can't remember?

He'll turn 34 in May , Giles will be 35 in Jan. Doesn't Giles have a suspect shoulder?

Heard on ESPN this morning that a deal between Boston, Anaheim and AZ could go down where Manny goes to Anaheim and Erstad and Glaus go to Boston. They didn't say who AZ would get. Am guessing some young players from Anaheim. Probably McPherson. If Anaheim makes such a deal, this probably takes them out of the Damon sweepstakes.

It also may move some of those good young players that Arizona had. I wonder if this trade is going to be a good thing for the Cubs?

Seems like Damon's price tag may come down. Perhaps Pie can be moved to rf in 2007.

Do you think that the Cubs could win with 3 OF's that don't hit over 20 HR's each? I would really be uncomfortable with that.

I thought Pie has good power?? And Murton looks like a 25 homer type of guy. ARam & Lee make up for lack of power elsewhere, but they would need another middle of the order hitter, so maybe Murton would eventually get dealt for more power. They can always sign Cliff Floyd in 2006 too. I'd like to see them get Kent for this upcoming season. Furcal, Damon, Lee, Kent and ARam would be a formidable 1-5.

How is Boston already taking trade when they just lost their GM and their asst. GM?

Apparently, it was some deal Epstein was working on. Guess they're still looking to carry it out. Sounds a little complicated.

Unfortunately. However it also takes Anaheim out of the Giles sweepstakes.
