Here is a commentary on Guzman's performance from BA...

Speaking of shoulder problems, Cubs righthander Angel Guzman started Wednesday for Mesa. Guzman, who had arthroscopic surgery to repair a labrum tear in 2003 and missed most of 2005 with forearm stiffness, allowed two runs on two hits over three innings in the Solar Sox’ 9-3 loss to Surprise. While the velocity on his fastball is back—consistently in the 91-93 mph range, topping out at 95—his command is not. Guzman walked four and struck out one. He showed flashes of a plus curveball, but used it sparingly. His changeup—which was a plus pitch with excellent deception pre-surgery—still needs work to get back to where it once was. “The fastball was impressive, and you expect it out of this kid,” an AL scout said. “There was some command in there, but he’s not locating well. And 95 percent fastballs in this league tells me lack of confidence in the secondary pitches.”

Down by one with two outs, Murton comes through with an RBI double to tie it.

And then Peoria Javelinas drops a 6 spot in the top of the 10th

Go, EPatt! I am really pulling for him to make good and be the Cubs 2nd baseman of the future. Ramirez, Cedeno, Patterson and Lee. I doubt it will happen, but they could be good.

And maybe Koronka is on the Chronic? When pitchers relax good things can happen...

i am very much hoping for the same thing along with murton & pie in the of. why do you doubt it can happen? murton & cedeno are ready to start in the majors next year imo and epat & pie might be ready by 2007. with prior and z already established & guzman, pinto, nolasco on the verge of breaking out, the cubs would have the vast majority of their starters being developed by their farm system.

The question is, will Eric's play be negatively impacted by the Cubs' decision to jettison Corey this winter? Because I think Corey is a goner.

It's unfortunate, because Eric is showing almost NONE of the bad habits Corey did, even when Corey had his early minor league success. I think it shows that Corey made an understandable, but bad decision not to go to college. It sure seems to have helped Eric.

Turning that question around, I wonder if the Cubs are more hesitant to get rid of Corey because of Eric's presence in the organization?
