Macias and Perez batting #1 and #2 again today...

Dusty decides now is the time to keep a consistant lineup. Is Grieve in there?

Nope, Patterson, Murton, Burnitz, Nomar, Lee, Macias, Perez, didn't catch who was catching..

Thanks TT.

I don't understand why Grieve never gets a start. Does Baker not like this guy or what? I admit it would be tough to beat striking out 4 times in a game like Burnitz.

Cubs rookie Ryan Theriot made his first major-league start Tuesday, playing second base and leading off.

"I wanted to give him a shot, and this is a team that isn't contending,'' Baker said of the Pirates. "I'd like to give some others a shot, too.''

That should happen today, though not for rookie catcher Geovany Soto.

"Mark Prior is starting, so he probably would rather have someone he's familiar with,'' Baker said.

when he says 'i'd like to give some others a shot, too' he does realize that he has the authority to do so, correct? he acts as if his hands are tied. 'well, i wanted to start hill today and give soto a start behind the plate, but it's just not my call.'

Yep...he had his shot. See you in the spring Theriot.

FWIW Len said Theriot would've been starting had he not got food poisoning.

Gremlin stew? :D

ha ha

I mentioned in the game thread that I think it's interesting that someone felt obligated to point out that Theriot would have been starting had he not been sick.

What are you guys talking about Macias hit a homerun, that is good for a contract extension witha lot of insentives

He hit a home run??????

I take back all the evil things I said about him.

Macias for SS in 2006!

Whoops. I guess I shouldn't have missed my last Sarcasm Anonymous class. :D

Fun with numbers and runners...

Neifi and Macias have gotten 13% of all Cubs at bats with runners in scoring position this year...

...and put up the following lines:

Macias .250/.267/.300

Perez .264/.288/.426

Neifi is third on the team for opportunities with RISP, only 1 chance fewer than Aramis Ramirez! Roster construction and line up construction have failed miserably.

Don't let me get started that Corey and Neifi and Macias have been at the plate in 20% of all chances with RISP! There is are many reasons our offense ranks 15/16 in runs scored in the NL. Three are presented here.

Quick update:

After the 9/29 game in HOU, here are their stats over the last 10 games:

Macias - 5/25, 1 HR, 1 RBI, .200/.240/.360

Perez - 10/41, 0 HR, 2 RBI, .243/.268/.317

Yep. Coincidentally, Lee is hitting .314, with just 3 RBI.

I've noticed that coincidence recurring all season.

I want to see the riot play second and lead off the rest of the season. With Murton in the #2 hole.

I second this idea.

i would rather see cedeno play with his broken hand than macias

I didn't think this season could get any worse after watching from April-August, but after seeing how this September has unfolded, I have changed my mind. The only positive thing that has come out of the past 4 weeks was the emergence of Matt Murton in Left Field. Cedeno's been hurt, Hill inexplicably hasn't gotten a single start and now Theriot had a chance to start 1 game and he gets sick. What has been learned? Nothing. What a waste of an extremely valuable month.

What have learn in September? How about Dusty Baker trying to "stuff" his resume with 3 consecutive non-losing season with the Cubs. Wouldn't that look good to a team that is considering Baker, afer he is done with the Cubs?
