how many times is johnny b gonna bunt runners over just so the opponents can walk Lee??? this bafoon is killing me!!!!

It's the Joe Girardi/Ron Coomer effect. When you have a bad hitter who is likely to ground into a DP, it's almost worth sacrificing the guy just to limit the outcome to 1 out instead of 2.

Of course, you can always ask why a player like Neifi is anywhere near the 2 hole, but that's neither here nor there.

really all this does is give up an out, take the bat outta Lee's hands and put Burnitz in a spot where he has the same DP opportunity except this DP opp is for the end of the inning. Granted it worked out this time, but more often than not it doesnt

My point is, yeah, you give up one out, but with Neifi batting you were likely to have 2, so giving up 1 is a net gain.

I was mostly kidding.

Here's to hoping the Astros lose tonight, no clinching party for the Cards at Wrigley Field this weekend! Besides some of Patterson' at-bats is there a worse baseball sight than seeing the incongruous blob Ray King rolling out of the Cards bullpen?

Anyone who saw the game, was my gut feeling correct? Did Mitre pitch well? Seems like it was pretty good, but it was pretty hard to tell just by what I read in this game thread.

Mitre didn't pitch.... Rusch (6.2) - Wuertz (.1) - Novoa (1) - Dempster (1).

My bad, I thought someone in the game thread stated that Mitre was pitching or about to pitch.

Cubs beat Cards?

Man, I wish I cared more than just a passing interest in this game. That upsets me. I'd like to be flamed for saying it, but I get the feeling that people are feeling the same. The 5 pages thread would suggest it, too.

I usually get excited about September when the Cubs are out of the race because you get to see all the young players play. It's safe to say I haven't watched many games this September.

You don't frighten us, English pig-dogs! Go and boil your bottoms, sons of a silly person. I blow my nose at you! I don't want to talk to you no more, you empty headed animal food trough water! I fart in your general direction! You mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!
