Actually, what I find astonishing is the lengths that some of you, actually it seems to be pretty much all of you, will go to blame a loss on Baker.

I'm not in love with the guy myself, but you guys obviously have psyched yourself into thinking that he can do no right, and if he does it was by mistake.

Walker was 2 for 3 with 2 walks when he got replaced too. There's not even something you can make up to defend that.

Yeah, and for Macias, the guy who is pinch hitting at a .184 clip.

I'm sure the nitwit with the toothpick will try. That is, if anyone challenges him about it.

So would you have let the pitcher bat?

I'm trying to think back to who was available. Obviously losing Walkers stick hurt our chances, but Aurellia doesn't make a good play on Murton, the game is essentially over.

I've heard about this one time that a guy pinch hit for a pitcher, and then he was out of the game. Might be a rumor though.

Macias doesn't have to stay in the game.

Yes he does, look how much better his range and zone factors are then Walker.

He probably should have double switched following the inning when Neifi popped out to short to end the inning. Dempster come in and was due to leadoff the next inning.

But doing this would have required Dusty to remove his boy Neifi and god knows we can't win without him in the lineup.

His 2 double switches tonight took two of our three best hitters (Walker and Nomar) out of the lineup in a tie ballgame. Plus these two were 4 for 8 on the night. This comes when we have extra players on the bench thanks to roster expansion. I can't make this stuff up.

Point being, who was available? He made a double switch, which was basically pinch hitting.

Unless Nomar has said he can play SS, we really didn't have another viable option.

dbarbler21 - I don't want to argue, but Nomar was playing short prior to Ramirez going down. I'm sure he could have handled it for a couple of innings in a pinch.

He could have PH with Grieve, who is a far better hitter than Macias anyay.

I don't care if Macias pinch hits, I'm resigned to the fact that he will get a PH opportunity nearly every game despite his ineptitude in that situation. However, keeping Macias in the game is completely unnecessary. It's not worth the drop off just to move the pitcher's spot an extra 2 spots away, especially when Walker is having a great night at the plate.

Dusty has proven time and time again that the concept of a double switch is far too complicated for him.

Take Monday night for example. Burnitz pinch hit for Maddux with 2 outs in the bottom of the seventh. He struck out. Most would assume that Burnitz's night would be done since the new pitcher is going to replace him in the 9 spot, which was 9 batters away in the lineup. No, Dusty decides to employ a double switch at this point by taking his 5 hitter out of the lineup in Walker, moving Macias from right to second and inserting the pitcher in Walker's spot (5 hole) which was guaraneteed to bat at least one more time in the game.

What?

I know the Cubs are done for the Reds this but, does anyone think Valentine should have been brushed back once or twice maybe, even hit the dirt?

Wow...it's almost like he wants to lose. Why the heck would you even double switch with so many players on the roster? He just does not understand the flow of a game in any way or how to use his players.

Is Geovany Soto in the witness protection program or something?

I think he was catching in the bullpen.

He can watch how the veterans interact with the crowd there. The learning never ends.
