I love Wrigley but for any Chicago writer to criticize a park for being run down and dirty is kinf of funny. Wrigley is the greatest ballpark left because of its history but the place is kind of a s**thole. The bathrooms are disgusting and not that nice on the inside. I agree that Busch may not be the best stadium but it is nowhere near as bad as he is making it out to be.

Who cares about the bathrooms? Are you going to NOT go to a baseball game because the area that you take a whiz doesn't have a butler in it? People don't go to baseball games to take in the asthetic (I know that's spelled wrong) beauty of the crapper.

I hate it when people badmouth Wrigley by saying their bathrooms are nasty. WHO CARES!

EDIT: In other words... what Vance and DJAXXFAN said.

I don't think it's any more or less of an issue than cigarette butts on the sidewalk outside of Busch Stadium.

I don't either. When you put 100's of smokers in one place, there are going to be cigarette butts. But... I've never heard anyone complain about that before. Cardinal fans complain about Wrigley's bathrooms all the time.

Now having read the article, Sullivan comes off too harsh, but that's nothing new considering he's terrible at his job. Also, I'm deeply disappointed that I share a tie to Mizzou with him. I think the reputation of the J-School here just took a hit.

Man, Cardinal fans get so sensitive. The small market insecurity shows up again. It's part of the territory. Most media dogs out other teams' park. Where is the criticism when that idiot Hrabosky moans about the small visiting clubhouse at Wrigley? Or when he calls Shea Stadium a dump. Or when McLaughlin speaks of the "quirkiness" of Dolphin Stadium, or when Buck talks about the small clubhouse at Fenway. I'm sure Bernie Miklasz has been critical of ballparks, too. You give Sullivan too much credit by getting upset at things that others admit are true.

I guess I still don't understand the correlation to small market insecurity. A Chicago writer wrote it and a Cubs fan posted it. I didn't read a whole lot into the article. The irrelevance of some of the points he made, like the butts on the ground, and the fact that we'll have a new one next season, sounded like sour grapes to me.

You should have listened to Mizzou CPatt. I'm calling you Sully Jr. from now on. Or perhaps Sullys protege?

I wish he would've mentioned that there are way too many mullets at Busch Stadium.[/quote]

Rumor has it that in an effort to keep the new Busch Stadium clean, Cardinal management will be enforcing a "no mullet policy." This should open up plenty of room for Cardinal fans currently on the season ticket waiting list. :D

Why would I call them out especially if it's the truth? I guess that's what happens when you pretty much run away with the division and that's all you have to be concerned about. Thanks for the reminder, there are a couple of STL media who have said that Minute Maid isn't a real ballpark. My guess is that every ballpark has been criticized by opposing fans/media with the exceptions of Dodger Stadium (Dodger fans get criticized) and the newer stadiums minus Minute Maid. I still think it's the small market insecurity. Anyway, I would think you all would be more concerned with Willis, Beckett and Burnett than some hack writer from Chicago, who many Cub fans don't like.

I don't think it's the truth that Busch is "dumpy" or "dirty", or "not a real ball park" or "lacks nostalgia". That's why I'm calling Sullivan out. Is it true that Busch was a "cookie cutter", without much personality? Yes. That much is true, and I don't think that most folks (even Cardinal fans) would take offense to that.

I'm not deeply offended by Sullivan's remarks. Cardinal fans didn't start this thread, because it's not a huge issue to them. But, it's certainly worth commenting on.

I'll concern myself with Willis, Beckett and Burnett after the Cardinals have clinched a playoff spot, and after the Marlins have clinched a playoff spot.

Luckily I don't even walk past the J-School, so I can't claim any more connection than Mizzou has.

What is your major?

To keep with the thread....another cookie cutter stadium bites the dust.

Computer Science

And by continuing to debate the topic, you are letting Sullivan win. He's dumb. All the time.

I do like the idea of letting Bartman blow it up

That's actually really funny. Even from a Cardinal fan's perspective.

Actually, I think it would be pretty comical if ANY Cubs fan won the lottery to blow it up. That would be somewhat fitting.

That and the increased cost of going to the park will keep the rednecks away. Supposedly Cardinals management has said that they're not raising ticket prices significantly in the new park. The deception occurs in the fact that there will be a lot fewer cheaper seats available and a significant number of seats will be in the higher price ranges.

So yes, upper deck seats with still be around $15, but now instead of 15,000 seats in that price range: there will be only 5,000 seats.

My understanding is that Fredbird didn't exist until 1979.

Fredbird was our mystery guest Opening Day first-ball pitcher for the 1978 season

DJ - Does Fredbird sport a mullet?

Good question.

I would expect that part of the agreement is to wear non Cub apparel.

Next year, the Cards move into a new stadium (with greater revenue potential), the best GM is baseball and the best team in the NL - now that's something that Cubs fans should be concerned about.

But who cares what I think, what does Vaball think?

I think you're right. The Cardinals are trying to level the one advantage the Cubs have over them, revenue. They will have a new stadium, their own radio station, and will be landlords in the ballpark village. Give a superior management even more resources and I would be worried if I were the Cubs.

As for Paul Sullivan I don't care what he writes. I'm not very attached to Busch. It's the best of the cookie cutters, that's about all you can say for it. I just hope the new one turns out well.

They're better off with a new stadium, now they need to do something around the stadium. Warehouses and a bunch hotels doesn't do much for me. Neither does the Bowling HOF, which is oddly connected to the Cards HOF. They need to take the stadium club with them though.

From the looks of the park when I seen it in July, it is coming along nicely.

Well they're building the ball park village, a combo of retail, office, and residential where the old Busch is. There was some talk of throwing an aquarium in it at one point. I think they're also moving the Cards HOF to either a new building or the stadium itself. We'll see how it all turns out.

Well they're building the ball park village

AKA faux-wrigleyville.

It would have been sweet if they built the new stadium in Soulard. But then downtown might really die. Not to mention no great highway of metrolink access.

Still, would have been cool.
