Serious question.

Assuming Kerry Wood is going to start next year, do you bring Dempster back to be the closer, or do you spend mucho dinero for a free agent (like Billy Wagner)? Discuss.

you can bring dempster to set-up too. But i'd rather get a set-up and stick with demp. if a guy can walk 4 men in a row and still get a 2 run save, he's got "it"

I bring Dempster back and also look to bring on board someone with a very low oavg. I love the idea of Wood as a true Eck-type relief pitcher, but he doesn't like that idea yet, and he has to be on board. Basically, I like Wood in whatever role -- he's unhittable, but he either needs a good bullpen or (if he's in the bullpen) good starters.

The only closer I consider in FA is BJ Ryan. I think Wagner is getting too old and will be an injury-concern, I'd rather re-sign Dempster than get Wagner. If the Cubs sign BJ Ryan, I look to re-sign Dempster as a set-up man.

just imagine if Dempster was closer since day 1 like Hendry wanted :( :( (would still be a couple of games out, but still...)

You gotta bring back Dempster, he's been great. Wagner I believe is on the verge of imploding.

ha ha, that would be great if Corey got picked off as a pinch runner

Wow. I'm really starting to wonder how much money I'd put on Corey not being here next year. Certainly makes Dusty look like a fool.

Nomar, despite how bad his average was when he was injured, has raised his average to 274. I wouldn't mind re-signing him if we can get him for five million or less.

.338 .378 .574 .952 (in 60+ AB in August)

.318 .360 .682 1.042 (so far in September)

Methinks, Nomar is trying to convince Hendry that he is healthy, and is worth another 1 yr gamble? We know when healthy, Nomar is CAPABLE of these numbers, so this is not a fluke. But will Hendry take the risk on bringing back Nomar, or is he deadset on acquiring Furcal?

These kids, Murton and Cedeno, they are pretty darn good for being "rookies."
