I wouldn't mind a low ball deal to try to see if he will overcome those baggage troubles to become a reliable bullpen arm.

Not only could he eat himself out of the League, he could drink himself out of the League at the same time.

Nothing more frustrating than watching a fat player struggle b/c of inability to control his weight. You're starting to see that in St. Louis as Ray King continues to go from an oval shape to a circle shape and it showing in his production lately.

He's been overweight his entire career, but he's still getting bigger as the years go on.

What is funny is they released him today, so even if a team in the playoff race wanted to take a chance on him he couldnt be on the playoff roster.

Unless he replaced a player put on the DL, right?

Ponson will take his millions and retire. I bet he could buy enough donuts to stretch from here to the moon, and he probably will.

BALTIMORE -- When Baltimore Orioles first baseman Rafael Palmeiro returned from a suspension for steroid use earlier this month, Sidney Ponson wrapped his arm around his pensive teammate and offered his support.

Palmeiro returned the favor Friday -- in a figurative sense.

One day after Ponson was arrested for drunken driving -- his second such charge this year -- Palmeiro said, "I'm not going to sit here and crucify him. The one thing I'm going to do is stand by him. He supported me and I'm going to do the same for him. We all make mistakes; we're here to help him."

Kinda funny that Rafael Palmeiro publicly vouched for Ponson's character : "From one scumbag to another, you're alright dude!"

Hmmm...Ponson and Furcel, now that would make the Cubs an interesting team.

Oh the Old Style endorsements they could get :P

Just bring Farns and Hundley back too.

this looks right up hendry's street. take a gamble on a formerly good player, hoping he comes along, but not spending much/ he has tried this with aram, dempster, williamson, wilson even neifi, grieve and to a certain extent burnitz. with the questions with our pitching...why not. drop him a low ball deal..some incentives and see what happens. getting 2 duis is not good but t's not like he dropping a .30 on the BA level. i would bet most of us have had 3 beers/drinks and driven....that could lend you a dui.

I'd take a gamble on a talented headcase or a stand-up reclamation project, but I wouldn't take a gamble on a headcase reclamation project.

And you've got to be joking about DUIs. No, he didn't blow a .30 on the breath test because he refused to take a breathalyzer. Besides the DUI, he spent 11 days in Aruba for punching a judge and has left the dugout during games to hang out with friends in a suite in the stadium.

For the record, there are 2 things to do in aruba: eat (lots of good food) and drink (lots of strong drinks)

Number 3 would be water sports involving wind.

Anything else is far behind

Yes. If a playoff team got Ponson, they would have to DL a pitcher so he could play in the postseason. The Cubs did this last year. They put Ramon Martinez on the DL to allow Niefi Perez to be on the post-season roster had they made the playoffs.
