From BP, Dunno if anyone mentioned this yet:

"Which outfield has been the least productive? Obviously, it’s been the Cubs. If you combine the VORP of every single Cubs outfielder this year, the total (17.9) is higher than that of only two leaders on any of the other teams: Baltimore (Luis Matos, 14.2) and Oakland (Mark Kotsay, 15.4)."

We all knew it was very bad, but here it is laid out for us.

Burnitz has actually had a pretty decent year, meaning....

....every other outfielder they've had this year has been terrible?

It's times like these that make me glad I don't really know what VROP is.

Haha.

"Value Over Replacement Player. The number of runs contributed beyond what a replacement-level player at the same position would contribute if given the same percentage of team plate appearances. VORP scores do not consider the quality of a player's defense."

wow, that is depressing.

Yes, it is. Our outfield has absolutely, unequivocably sucked...., badly this year.

I think I'm going to go have a good cry.

Considering Corey Patterson has a NEGATIVE VORP it tells you what an embarassment this team is. I'd rather release him than pay the 3 mil or so he's getting next year.

Good thing we got rid of Alou, huh? People can point to a variety of reasons for the Cubs failures this season, but I've said it all year and I'll continue to say it: not resigning Alou was a HUGE mistake.

Anyone who urinates on his hands has no place on my team.

Not re-signing Alou wasn't a mistake. Replacing him with Todd Hollandsworth was.

Hollandsworth was.

But I thought not signing Alou was going to be addition by subtraction? Therefore it really shouldn't have mattered who we got to play left.
