Michael Phelps leaves after 1.2 IP, leaving a runner at third. LHP Paul Schappert comes in and gives up a rope single to the wall to score the runner. He then strikes out the next batter to limit the damage. Midway through 8, Daytona leads it 3-1.

Small recap from lovely Beloit...

The triple from Fuld was a 1-0 FB down the middle, he hit a high fly that hit the wall, but was a play that should've been made by the RF'er as he had plenty of time to get under it and didn't have to jump to catch it. his other ABs mainly consisted of fouling to 3B

Harvey was swinging at the high FB, his first AB he reached for a slider that he was outguessed on and hit a lazy pop to short RF. He just missed a pitch that could've been driven 450ft, it got just enough inside to break his bat and end up to the LF'er. He also struck out by being outguessed. He did make a nice play in RF early in the game.

Billek was pretty impressive, his FB was getting hit early as it is just an avg. pitch and topped at 91 and sat around 88. But, his curve and change were really impressive, he spotted them well and hitters had trouble picking them up. He did hang a couple of curves and one of them led to the only run allowed by Sanchez. As previously mentioned, his Fb topped at 91, curve sat at 74 and his change at 81.

The player of the night for me was Rivera at 3B, had one of the 3 base hits, but some great plays at 3B.

I was impressed with Teasley, show a FB that was around 93 and a nice change to go along it.

Bernard showed a nice arm as usual, one PB which helped lead to the only Snappers run, but hit an 0-2 FB that was right down the middle for an RBI.

Thanks, UK. You going tomorrow or Wednesday to see Guzman/Berg or Johnson?

I'll be there tomorrow and possibly Wed., they did pass out free tickets as we were leaving tonight for Wednesday's game.

Beloit, WI. General admission on a Wednesday Night, there was probably about 1,000 maybe 1500 max. there tonight.

Part of the reason why I like going to Beloit, plus I sit in the reserved area regardless.

i'm the same way. in des moines, i can pay $6 to sit 40 rows up down the lf line sandwiched in between 25 sweaty drunks, or i can pony up $10 and sit in the second row behind home plate. it's worth the extra $4.

thanks for the report.

WELLS DOMINANT IN 3-1 CUBS WIN

Randy Wells Once Again Stole the Show Monday with a Light-Out Pitching Performance in a Must Win Game for the Cubs

By Bo Fulginiti

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla—In a must win game there is no pitcher the Daytona Cubs fans would rather have on the mound than Randy Wells (10-2), and on Monday night at Jackie Robinson Ballpark he made that point crystal clear.

In Game 1 of a three game series against the first place Palm Beach Cardinals, Wells stole the spotlight in six innings of work as he tossed a two-hit shutout and fanned nine Cardinal batters en route a Daytona victory by a final of 3-1.

For Wells, the standout performance marked a win in now his fifth straight decision and also lowered his ERA to 2.74.

Offensively, the Cubs mustered up just enough support for the All-Star righty, as first baseman Brian Dopirak slugged a pair of RBI doubles in a 2-for-4 night to lead the charge and outfielder Chris Walker added a pair of runs scored after drawing two early walks.

Cards starter Oscar Alvarez (3-1) also turned in a solid effort as he gave up three earned runs in seven innings and struck out three, but the Palm Beach lefty was charged with his first loss of the season.

Daytona southpaw Paul Schappert finally slammed the door shut as he recorded his second two-inning save in as many games and his third of the season.

With the win the Cubs continue to keep their heads above water as they improved to 31-31 on the second half, while the Cardinals fell to 37-27 but still remained a game ahead of Vero Beach for first place in the East after the Dodgers lost to Brevard County 3-2 in 10 innings.

The Cubs will try to keep the ball rolling on Tuesday as they send new right-hander Matt Weber (7-9, 3.91 ERA in Peoria) to the mound to make his first Florida State League start, as he squares off against Cardinals righty Jose Garcia (4-4, 4.67 ERA).

First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. EST.

Epatt is still looking for his first hit, but he already has 3 walks in 2 games so far.
Uh-oh. We can't have any more of this foolishness if he ever wants to play for the Cubs.

He'll never make the Cubs this way. The name of the game is HITTING, not WALKING. Have you ever seen a top ten walking? We can't have the dude and his moveable parts clogging the bases.
