Please cast your vote for the NSBB Minor League Player of the Year. For more details on the award, see this thread.

Feel free to cut and paste the arguments in favor of the players from that thread to this one. Or to make new arguments entirely!

Once again, let me re-state the case for Matt Murton.

Since we aren't disqualifying players for major league service (and if we did that would include Cedeno and Hill as well), let me restate the case for the exceptional Mr. Murton.

The 23 year old from GA Tech has done it all.

Murton's numbers at AA West Tenn: 342/403/498. Add to that 8 HR and 18 SB in 78 games played. That in itself is impressive enough for him to warrant serious consideration. Keep in mind that he also held a .400 avg well into the month of May. And would have been on the SL all-star team had he not been called up to Chicago.

Murton also proved that his minor league numbers were no fluke as he nearly replicated his rate stats in his major league cup of coffee going 339/415/464. (While I know that major league numbers shouldn't be used to make the case for "minor league" player of the year, they are given to refute any who want to claim that he couldn't replicate those numbers at a higher level.)

Since being sent back to Iowa, Murton is hitting 400/464/560. Once again, he is showing patience at the plate combined with a 464 OBP at AAA. Any player that can produce those numbers at 23 at the highest level of the minors should be the POTY.

There's not a player in the Cubs system that is playing that well.

You want to compare him to the other candidates? He's had success at a higher level than Patterson. He's younger than Sing and has proven he can maintain his success at a higher level. He's done more in his major league tryout than Cedeno and Hill. He's been more consistent than players like Harvey and Dopirak. He hasn't gotten hurt like Pie.

At three levels, Murton has consistently kept his OBP over 400. He's kept his BA over 300 and hit over 400 for awhile at every level he's played. He's a great all around baseball player and was one of the first minor leaguers to agree to do a Q&A for NSBB. He's got some kicking red hair and has become the poster child for why we need to get rid of Dusty Baker. What more could you ask from the guy?

The only way to disqualify Murton is if you want someone with less major league experience. If that's the case, Cedeno and Hill should be out as well. But since we haven't made eligibility rules based on major league experience, how can you punish Murton for the fact that his minor league numbers earned him a month and a half at the big league level. You can argue that players like Sing and Patterson did it over larger sample sizes, but that argument doesn't hold water. Murton proved that his ability was no fluke as he continued his numbers at the majors and then again in Iowa after his demotion.

Murton's numbers speak for themselves: He's hit above 300 at every level along with providing 400+ OBP. At AA, a 901 OPS and at AAA a 1024 OPS. Murton should be the run-a-way winner of this award.

I think the only person that can compete with Murton for POY is Eric Patterson. As has been stated many times, the league Patterson is in compares to the NCAA league he played in with Georgia Tech. He had a tremendous year, but Murton's year relative to the league he has paid in gives him my vote.

Matt Murton's BABIP in AA: .376

Unsustainable. All other levels have small sample issues. Plus he's another player that's older than the truly deserving candidate. Viva Nolasco!

His OBP at all levels was over 400. He's proven he can sustain it at all levels. While he may have small sample sizes if you isolate any level, looking at them all shows a remarkably consistent picture. His AA numbers alone would put him in serious contention for this award, but when it is combined with the fact that he has maintained those numbers at each level, places him in a different level than any of the other candidates.

Nolasco is a good second place...and if we had a separate award for minor league pitcher of the year, he'd likely get my vote. But as it stands, Murton should be the hands down winner of this award this year. Nolasco can win it next season when Murton is playing fulltime in the majors.

Very lucky season at AA, with questionable power for a corner OF. I know you love you your cubbie rookie corner OF's Vance(:P), but where's the quote from the AA pitchers saying they hate facing Murton? Nolasco INSPIRES FEAR. You can't teach that. He's got the intangibles and the numbers, the complete package.

Murton's BABIP is high because, as one person put it, he's got "sneaky" speed, enabling him to get a base hit off an infield chopper. You do it long enough and consistently enough it's more than coincidence.

Go Matt!

No votes for Gallagher either. Not even from Serena. I'm saddened by the results thus far, not that Murton doesn't deserve it.

I'm saddened that there's only 28 votes. C'mon people, let's get the vote out here!

I voted for Brandon Sing.

Patterson needs to show another year before I get excited

Harvey has waaaay too high a K rate

Murton has too high a BABIP, but he's 2nd in my mind.
