Mesa: RHP Angel Guzman (0-0, 0.00 ERA, 8 IP, 12 K, 1 BB)

So would Guz get moved up to say Daytona or West Tenn with another positive performance tonight? Does he have any chance of pitching with the big club after Sept. 1?

I'd say Guzman has about a -32% chance of getting called up. IIRC he may get a start or two at Peoria or Daytona before their seasons are done, and before he goes to the AFL.

Dear Brandon Sing,

It will be ok if you hit your 26th HR tomorrow night when I'm in the booth.

More than likely, he'll go to Daytona, as some Chicago newspapers have indicated. I can't see the Cubs promoting him all the way from Mesa for his major league debut.

Iowa might be playing a doubleheader today (I'm guessing it's hurricane related from earlier in the year):

Two quotes from today's Daily Dish over at BA:

• Double-A West Tenn righthander Ricky Nolasco dominated Wednesday in the Diamond Jaxx' 3-1 win against Mississippi. The fourth-round pick in 2001 allowed a run on seven hits and struck out 11 over eight innings. On the season, Nolasco improved to 12-3, 3.15 with a league-leading 160 strikeouts in 148 innings. His 12 wins rank second in the Southern League behind Birmingham righthander Sean Tracey's 13.

"His command is phenomenal,” Birmingham manager Razor Shines said. “This is the guy that just doesn't walk you. I think if he walked you, he tried to walk you. I think he throws the ball exactly where he wants to throw it. He's in the low 90s with his fastball, he throws a good breaking ball and a good change. You've got to do things right when he's pitching, because he's not going to put guys on base."

• After a slow start after his demotion from the big leagues, Matt Murton busted out in the Pacific Coast League. The Cubs outfielder went 4-for-5 from Triple-A Iowa Wednesday and is now 7-for-19 since being reassigned.

Also, Razor Shines is a terrific name. I don't quite know if it's as good as Coco Crisp, Jung Bong, Evan Logoria, Dick Pole, or Rusty Kuntz, but it's still quite good.

You will get your wish DJAXX.. Sing isn't in the line-up tonight. He probably won't play unless we need a big bat off the bench.

Get ready for Friday night. Is it cool for you to do the middle three innings of PBP??

murton's homer gives the i-cubs a 2-1 lead going into the bottom of the 7th (they only play 7 because it's a DH). hill starts the seventh by giving up consecutive singles. then lewis catches a line drive for the first out, but throws it away at 1st...runners move up.

6 1/3 ip, 7 h, 1 er, 1 bb, 7 k's.

19/25 first pitch strikes for the nsbb minor league POY. :D

OK. I figured it was just a typo, but I wanted to know which was right.
