The last time the Atlanta Braves had a 3-game losing streak was 1980. That's 25 years of never losing more than 2 consecutive games. Now that's what you call consistency.

I think you must have misheard it. What's your source?

EDIT: They've actually done it three times this year. Most recently - yesterday . . .

Yeah seriously, please clairify. No team can go that long without a 3 game losing streak.

He's wrong.

I read this same statistic as well, but I can't remember where now. I think it might have been over at the Cub Reporter.

It was in today's (Aug. 21st) Chicago Tribune sports page 2. The article was by Phil Rogers (I know I shouldn't trust him) and he was just as amazed as we are. If it is wrong, I apologize but I used his facts and I would assume he checked it before printing it.

Therein lies your problem. :)

Here is what Phil Rogers wrote in today's (8/21) edition of the Chicago Tribune:

Streak-proof

While the Cubs have had three losing streaks of at least seven games this season, and Kansas City is enduring an abomination, 1980 was the last time a Bobby Cox team lost as many as three games in a row.

That's 25 years, which is simply amazing. Having Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine and John Smoltz helped, but don't overlook Cox's steady hand in the clubhouse. His teams always seem to remain calm, seldom pressing.

I don't even want to guess where Rogers got this tidbit from.

I understand that Rogers is a moron, and eminently capable of coming up with such dreck - but the fact that this made it through the myriad of copy editors that work a major daily is insane.

Here's an even more amazing statistic(s).......

Boston/Milwaukee/Atlanta World Series
                           W L pct PA W L

1901 - 1990 6416 7450 0.463 6 2 2
1991 - 2004 1341 859 0.610 13 1 4

A testament to the job that Schurholz & Cox have done in Atlanta. Makes you wonder who the Tribune might find to accomplish such a turnaround after nearly a century of futility ???

Dayton Moore would be a nice starting piece to the puzzle.

Especially given the fact that a short quick check on Baseball-Reference gave me the information I posted regarding the longest losing streaks the Braves have had each year since 1980.

Rogers is a moron and probably meant to say that they never lost 3 series in a row, which is still astounding, but slightly more believable.

Yup, that would make more sense. And looking into it, Bobby Cox is/was the Braves manager from 1978-1981;1990-2005, thus negating a couple of their worst years.

They lost 5 straight series last year, twice.
