I've seen these references off and on the last few weeks. I guess I'd hope that we only have to face him 4 more times against the Giants than have to face him 7 more times against the Astros.

"Although he declared it a dead issue, Phil Garner hasn't stopped thinking about San Francisco Giants slugger Moises Alou, whom many within the Astros organization would like to acquire for the pennant stretch."

If Alou goes on waivers (and i'm sure i'll catch hell for the following) I claim him to keep him from going to Houston. His contract isn't all that bad for next year, and with the horrid free agent market, he'd be a fine 1 yeart stopgap until some of the young kids are really ready.

It wouldn't be worth it. The Cubs are still 5.5 games behind Houston, with several teams to pass. They are a longshot at best for the playoffs. If the Cubs aren't likely to make the playoffs anyway, I'll take my chances with Burnitz (or Murton) for the rest of the year and take my chances to get Giles in the offseason rather being stuck with Alou.

If you want to burn the Astros, let them take him.

Yeah, that .328/.418/.507 line will burn them good!

last year i hated moises and wanted him gone because he acted weird and ran the bases poorly

now that he's gone i realize i was all wrong. im not necessarily saying that it was dumb to not re-sign him, but all things being equal i wish he was a cub, just because he was so cool.

And just because nobody has said it in this thread yet...

Moises pees on his hands!!

Seriously, though, the Cubs won't make the playoffs. Managment should just do the youth movement thing for the rest of the year and then see what we need to do in the offseason. They shouldn't concern themselves with aging OF's and delude themselves into thinking they have a shot.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. The reason he pees on his hand is to heal blisters. It's the roids in the urine that heal the blisters. Stay away from Alou!

One of the dirty little secrets about the NL West this year is that the Giants are still kinda, sorta in the race, being "only" six games back. I don't see them trading away one of their best hitters for prospects.

hey, i think we should block it. i think we have the money we should take alou he could really help our offense, besides that would help maddux possibly get his 15 th win, and it will make our offense from the most inconsistent offense to a close to consistent offense.

If we take Alou back what does that say about the competence about our GM? Then again Hendry didnt light the world on fire with his actions this off-season.

dear god let them have him. lets just play Murton everyday. Just win everyday from now til the end of the year and we will be in the playoffs.

During the off-season, I thought getting rid of Alou was the absolutely right thing to do (instead of picking up his 9 mil option). I didn't think he had another year in him. On the other hand, I was one of those who thought it would be better to hold onto Sosa for one more year, instead of trading him to any team just to get rid of him. I wasn't even too crazy about the Cliff Floyd rumors, thinking it better to keep Sosa in a contract year.

Goes to show what I know. That said, Alou again suffered his usual injury and I still don't think he is worth 9 mil.
