Clearly, there have been too many decisions out of our bullpen, leading to lower wins and losses for our starters. Maddux leads the team with 10 wins. Check out all the pitchers who have more wins than any Cub this year:

Chris Carpenter

Jon Garland

Dontrelle Willis

Livan Hernandez

Mark Mulder

Roy Oswalt

Jeremy Bonderman

Mark Buehrle

Chris Capuano

John Smoltz

Tim Wakefield

Pedro Martinez

Jon Lieber

Jeff Suppan

Matt Morris

Roy Halladay

Johan Santana

Rodrigo Lopez

Cliff Lee

Roger Clemens

Kenny Rogers

Randy Johnson

Mike Mussina

Matt Clement

Freddy Garcia

AJ Burnett

Barry Zito

Josh Beckett

Jeff Francis

Gustavo Chacin

I know Wins isn't that important a stat.....unless your ballclub has a losing record. Then, someone is losing a lot of games.

Are some of those guys better than Z, Prior or Maddux? What the heck is wrong with our stupid team?

That's amazing. Hard to explain. But my thoughts (for what they're worth):

Maddux has been really up and down this year. 10 wins sounds about right for him.

Prior missed a number of starts with injuries.

Wood can't stay healthy at all.

Z is tough to explain. His numbers are actually very similar to last year (which surprised me).

Fifth starter (Williams, Hill, Rusch, Mitre, etc) - I don't think anyone expected more than 10 wins out of this spot anyway.

Plus our lineup has been feast or famine (or so it seems). And our 'pen has been really inconsistent. Dempster has probably been our best reliever (until Wood showed up down there), but even he can't seem to enter a game w/o giving up a walk and/or a basehit. We just haven't had consistent performance out of the pen this year. Those things contribute to a low win total for the starters.

Our offense cannot get on base, thus we can't score runs at a consistent clip, thus we are mediocre? Just a hunch.

I can only assume you bolded names of pitchers who you believe are surprisingly on that list or are lesser pitchers. Bonderman and Lee are really good pitchers, they are among the league's elite under 25 pitchers. Francis and Chacin will only get better. Capuano, Clement, Lieber and Lopez are all good middle of the rotation guys.

BP's expected W-L record has Z at 10.9 wins, good for 10th in the league and 11th in the majors (only buerhle has more in the AL).

Maddux is at 23rd in the league with 8.8.

I thiit denotes former Cubs: Lieber, Clement, et al

But none of the other bolded ones were Cubs. And Willis and Garland would have to bolded, too.

No, the bolded ones were "WTF" guys. Or guys who, while good, shouldn't have more wins than Z or Maddux (in a perfect world)
