A few months ago McGwire was getting lambasted for not denying steroid use. Meanwhile Palmeiro was adamantly denying using steroids and then tests positive.

Thats really a tough one. I will say McGwire simply because the reason he's remembered is because of HR's. Raffy was more of an all around player (3000 hits). You would think that it would effect McGwires reputation more because he was only really known for homers, and thats the main thing that steroids supposedly fuel. Whereas Palmiero could also get a hit, which while roids would probably help get a few balls over some outfielders heads for doubles, you wouldnt think it would have as big of an effect on his overall hit total.

Who knows tho. Either way, their careers will both be tainted.

Palmeiro easily.

Why?

- Palmeiro never really did anything special in the first place. Quiety went about his way to 500. Mac, on the other hand, had one of the most magical seasons in sports history. He and Sammy combined to get baseball out of the doldrums from the 94 strike. Everyone remembers 98.

- Palmeiro veamently denied (pointed finger) doing steroids. Mac didnt. Yah, he basically did admit, but the fact is, that he didnt admit or deny. Palmeiro flat out denied and lied.

- Mac's a more likeable guy anyway.

- A lot of the stuff Mac did at the time was legal. Palmeiro used a high-end steroid used by sprinter Ben Johnson.

- Mac has more homeruns - biggest stat in the book, hits dont even come close.

Those are really really good points. Can I change my vote?

Yes, 3000 hits and 500 homers happens like every day. I'm getting sick of it, personally.

McGwire, b/c he said he used the juice to hit his 70 HR's in 1998.

Andro isn't "the juice".

I voted Palmeiro because he actually had a positive test result, while McGwire only ever admitted to using a dietary supplement, not anabolic steroids.

Andro wasn't banned at the time. Also, McGwire hasn't failed any tests or admitted to anything. You can't convict him without proof.

Palmeiro.

I vote for Raffy too, but while Mark hasn't been caught for anything, he really damaged himself with his performance on capital hill. Personally, I believe he juiced. But fwiw, I think Sammy did as well (and have always been a huge fan of Sosa). Of course, that is just my opinion.

That doesn't stop people from pretty much convicting Sammy.

McGwire was never busted with anything. Palmeiro was caught red handed with a steroid, not just a "banned substance." He's screwed. The circumstantial evidence was strong to begin with, with his Canseco connection. but he actually got busted. He went from being a pretty sure HOF'er to a doubtful one.
