Since it's looking like the Cubs won't be able to pull it out, I'm rooting for the Stros in the WC. It's not a given that the Cards will beat out the Braves for home field (although we helped our cause yesterday), but if an NL East team wins, the Cards will have to play them in the first round. Obviously any team in the NL playoffs would rather face any team in the NL West than whoever the hot wild card team is.

Considering the futility of the West, I think they should seed teams by their W-L record, not the way they currently do it (i.e. in all likelihood, whoever wins the WC will have a better record than the team from the West). Still have division winners, but seeded based on W-L.

Not that they'd do well in the post season, but seeing the Nationals make the wildcard would be a better sports story than Houston.

Yeah plus I'd be a lot more comfortable with The Rajah, Oswalt, and Pettite as far from the playoffs as possible. Call me paranoid, but that's not a three man rotation I'd relish facing in a 5 or 7 game series.

Nah, those guys are scrubs.

I for one am wondering why it is that we all praise Clemens for his great workout regiment and for getting better past 40, then turn around and say old Barry Bonds is cheating. I would love to see the Rocket get tested. You shouldn't be improving as you get well past 40.

disclaimer: unless you are named Julio Franco.

Two reasons I can see - 1) There hasn't been any explosion in pitching stats like there has been in home runs starting in 1998 and 2) Pitchers don't appear to have gotten noticiably more muscular fro 15 years ago. It will be interesting to see when everything is said and done how many pitchers were on the juice.

No one here ever said they were scrubs, Jimy. You can quit with the act.

All I ever said was that Roger and Roy were playing to their ability, and Pettitte was way over his head over the past month+, and I think most non-Houston fans would agree with me.

yeah studs like Ryan Franklin got busted. They are just as guilty. You are right though it would be interesting to see how many of them are.

Roger's dome isn't as big as a watermelon like Bonds'.

Honestly, I think the fact that he is at home and has the luxury of not attending every game/workout has helped him out. I assume he'll be back next year, he stands to make about 20m and he's certainly still at the top of his game.

Since June 1, Roger Clemens, Andy Pettitte and Oswalt are a combined 24-7 with a collective 1.75 ERA in 38 starts.

And exactly how would that contradict what I said? Thank you. If anything, I was being kind.

Again Clemens, Oswalt = Pitching up to their ability.

Pettitte = Way over his head over the past month+.

I don't know what you think is so wrong with that.

I don't relish playing Houston any more than any other playoff bound team, but I'd rather Atlanta and Houston face off in the first round.

dude, Clemens has only 11 wins. He would be like a long reliever on the cards. The guy just isn't clutch.

I'll be rooting for the Astros to win the WC, I'll be rooting for the Braves to win the NL.

As much as some don't like Oswalt, I respect the production he brings. I also like Ensberg as well as Ausmus.

Think Bobby Cox would like some payback for Phil Garner & Phonegate last year?

Also, don't forget Brad Lidge being in the equation. As much as I think Phil Garner wants Lidge's arm to explode, he's still a nasty closer.
