The payroll is good enough. I think theres too many people in management that have to make decisions, before Dusty can get fired.

A longer chain of command.

I'm curious on how Hendry really feels about Baker...I mean really feels, not the company line.

Unfortuantely we'll never know.

He keeps giving Dusty "his boys" like Neifi, Macias, Hollandsworth, etc, so knowing this, he must at least approve of some of the job Dusty is doing.

Never gonna happen. The Trib's too damn cheap to eat a contract.

100 million payroll. That's so cheap.

It's an 87 million dollar payroll. Calling it a 100 million payroll is another copout by the Trib.

Nope. Paying off contracts of underachieving players is part of the cost of doing business. Some contracts work out swell, some don't. The dollar cost is the same. When players overachieve relative to their salaries nobody adds imaginary dollars to payroll quotes.

Hendry likes Dusty but for the record, so does MacPhail. Both have given Dusty public words of support. I dont think Jim is following a company line. He's the GM, as such, he has the autonomy to hire and fire the manager. That being said, I wouldnt be surprised if they let Dusty complete his contract and look elsewhere.

Well, if we fall 5 games below .500 this season, I woulden't be surprised if Baker loses his job.

I would.

But you can consider Rothschild as good as gone at the end of the year. Gotta have a scapegoat and it ain't gonna be one of Baker's boys (Pole, Matthews, Clines, Speier).

Which is a load of crap because the Trib could afford to sign Alou or Beltran even while paying Sosa but they were too cheap to do it.

Beltran? I was happy we didnt get into that spend-a-thon during the offseason and I am even more happy today. that would have been a terrible waste of money. I do agree that they needed a FT LF'er to start the year.

Speier is one of Hendry's picks..not Dustys. I agree that Baker probably won't lose his job this year but, if Hendry has given Baker the guys he has wanted and Baker/Cubs struggles for the rest of 2005, it may be possible it is his last year....slight as it is but possible if it went that way.

Hopefully no more 4 year contracts to bad managers after that. I'd really like to see an up and comer, not a known commidity manage this team.

I would like to see someone like a Ned Yost.

As would I but there are a few scenerios that may come up where he won't.

I like Yost too but he may not be a good fit on a team that is primarily made of veterans. Just like a good college coach doesnt work in the NBA...

And how exactly do you know this to be true?

The Mets lose

Don't worry, they'll put it together this weekend. Haven't you heard? The National League's slumpbuster is coming to town.

Is that the Reds, Pirates, Brewers, Or the entire National League West?

There is only one Orange and that is in Syracuse! :D

You had me excited for a minute there until I read where you are from.

What does the trib's circulation have to do with the profit/loss of the Cubs? They are completely different businesses -- despite having a common parent company. I'm not an accountant, but the shifting of money between different corporations is not generally considered legal..... just ask Ken Lay, Jeff Skilling, and the other crooks - ahem "former execs" -- at Enron.

D'backs are winning 5-1 in the bottom of the 2nd inning. The Astros are playing like the Cubs.

Doesn't really matter that much though. Cubs suck. :x

D'backs now lead 6-2 in the 4th. Go Arizona!

In other news, the Marlins beat STL. 4-3 and the Nats creamed LA 7-0
