So what exactly is the punishment if he is now found to have lied to Congress? Jail time? Fines?

Raffy has to be a complete idiot to think he could continue to take a banned substance and get away with it -- I guess he didn't care if his legacy was ruined.

That could be some serious jail time. Perjury in court is a 20-year sentence, IIRC, but I don't know what it is if you lie to Congress. Will Congress even go after him?

I'm no legal expert, but that depends on whether Congress wants to make an example of him like MLB will, I would guess.

What are Raffy's stats in the last month. I'm just wondering if he was struggling and went the quick route to "success".

Again, does anyone know how long this stuff stays in your system?

Steriod detection times vary, but I heard the longest time is 18 months.

Thanks GORDO. So 18 months will be the time Bonds knee gets better.

Wouldn't they have to prove he was on steriods before he testified? I guess it depends on when the test was taken.

Unless they get him to squeal on other players to reduce his time.

Technically, all he has to do is say he juiced "AFTER" he testified. Well.. unless they find footage of him doping up from before he testified.

I haven't read the articles, so sorry if it's in there, but I would be curious as to what exactly he was caught using. Also, what he says about it. It's just unreal that a guy that just got his 3,000 hit would be dumb enough to be using. Aren't there some meds that have illegal substances in them but aren't necessarily for what we think of steroids as being?

Another question I have: when do these tests take place? Could MLB have known, and then let him get to 3,000, take a couple weeks and then go public?

I'm really curious to hear his take.

They just said during the Orioles broadcast that Raffy would address the media through a conference call at 1:30 pm ET.

I never thought about his injury that way, but I bet your correct.

They can, but I don't know how they plan on nailing those guys, short of saying "pee in this cup right now", and that would mean they'd have to have it in thier systems. There is no possible way to prove right now that a player had taken steroids in past seasons.

Couldn't happen to a better guy IMO.

Somewhere Ryno is laughing and his former wife, is being asked by some John paying $20 for a youknowwhat if she knew when she did him.

I don't know if it's been mentioned in this thread yet or not, but until we know more for certain, keep in mind it may NOT have been steroids - it could have been any of a number of illegal drugs banned by the MLBPA policy.

In a prepared statement, Palmeiro said he could not explain how the steroids got into his body. "I have never intentionally used steroids. Never. Ever. Period," he said. "Ultimately, although I never intentionally put a banned substance into my body, the independent arbitrator ruled that I had to be suspended under the terms of the program."

 Riiiiiight, Raffy. Riiiiiiight.

Hmm...I wonder when he took the stuff and if that is the reason for the better numbers. This is like a Greek tragedy.

Yeah, that whole knee thing with Bonds kinda piqued my interest too, especially after the new steroid policy. It all seemed kind of convienient to me.

I hope he doesn't start crying and admitting he did the juice. At this point, claim false positive and carry the lie to your grave. I don't care what evidence they have. At least the conspiracy theorist will be in your corner.

I wonder if Congress will have some sort of investigation into this. I could see them making an example out of Raffy. If they do I wonder if we'll find out what he actually got caught for. I still don't understand why they keep that a secret.

Yea, but I think he's still being tested. THe teller is going to be Post "Knee" surgery Bonds. If he comes back and hits .240 with 16 Homers, then we KNOW he is juicing.

I thought his lame, finger-pointing, forced emphatic statement at Congress was funny to begin with. Now it's even funnier. Way to be Raffy. Way to ruin your career, and way to force months of unbearable steroid talk back on the fans again.

Imagine if Raffy said this:

"Yes, I did steroids. I was wrong and I'll accept any punishment I recieve."

Then watch for flying pigs.

Only way he says that is in a letter written after he's returned to his native Cuba. :D

Are players on the DL tested? I don't think they are.

We wouldn't "KNOW" anything because of that.

While I side on the belief he did use them, a decline in his numbers would not be sufficient at this point. He is 40+, coming off an injury, and has had a full year off. Those would also contribute to the decline.
